Red The Project

Picking this up this AM. 94 XLT (edited), 238K, 5.0/4R70, MAF Reasonably good shape despite the miles.

Runs rough when warm, shifts smooth, front end needs work.

Will see how it turns out.

Thanks Randy. This thing's full'o surprises, most I'm going to be too embarrassed to talk about.

It has good bones & I have a bunch of used parts & PaP will provide most of what's needed.

I assume you got it at a salvage yard. If so does it have a salvage title? I would love to know what you had to pay for one from them. It looks like great potential and a very nice find. Congrats. Sandy

That's a pretty good looking truck. Congratulations on your find. Is it a standard cab short box too? That could be one very nice hot rod truck.

Sandy it came from a salvage yard, but until my copy comes in the mail, I'm supposing that it will be as if sold by a used dealer vs a salvage since it's never been wrecked or dunked..

But I could be wrong & I'll be very up-front regardless when I pass it on.

Dave it's a short bed. I'm just bringing it back from the dead & to have something to work on & flip.

Gave it it's day #1 photo-log & stage one cleaning today to get the upper layer of crud from the engine.

The to-do list is getting long.

The short list:

Door pin/bushings. door strikes, remove night mare tint, remove ground effects, remove stripes, alternator, shocks, brakes, wheel cylinders, rear window seals, antenna cap, pass side headlight flooded, idler wore out/torx bolt stripped, front tank gauge, AB code 32/clockspring (horn/cruise), CEL bulb, 6 cylinder snorkle, window motor bushings, both sides, shampoo carpet/seat, plugs, headliner.

CM codes 334, 172
ER codes 116, 172, 334, & the ever popular 538.

Put my original 95 amp alt off the 5.8 on yesterday. Boosted out put from the "O" over to tween "M" & "A".

Cleaned out the distributor & PIP, scrubbed the bottom half, threw on a used rotor.

Cleaned IAC & capped the leaky CANP nipple.

Set timing to 10*-ish (giant pink mark on balancer), could be 12*

Noticeable improvement in run/idle.

Below is day #1 first repair. dipstick tube was flopping around in hole since the stud is broke off.

Cleaned hole & threw a o-ring on it & wired it down:

Here's the "before" engine bay shot... may have had a leak sometime: (edit... Yah THINK? )

Pulled the damaged body kit off today & cleaned off the crud hiding.

My chapter bud pointed out that it probably blew a tire.

There's black & (yet) another dent on the bed rail to go with the above.

This sucker is definitively wearing some high-water pants...

Pretty truck, but I noticed what looked like where it overheated and blew rusty water all over the engine compartment at sometime. Unless that is red Mississippi mud dust.

Oh no, it ain't mud. It obviously self-flushed it's self sometime in the near past.

It has damn near zero rust save for surface scale on the frame.

I could only find one tiny smaller than a pin head spot in a wheel arch after pulling off the body kit.

Was really terrified it might be et' up.

Now the DENTS on the other hand are everywhere.

Thomas, it does look tons better without.

Just don't know what to do with that "*** in the air like a cat ready to mate" stance or why it's there in the first place.

Started on the doors & window motor "slugs" so it can stay out in the rain when needed.

That looks like an aftermarket helper spring in the back. Could be pushing the rear end up. The leaf on the bottom of the pack. If it is thicker than the others it is most likely the culprit. Add-a-leaf
