Because they would rather force those that really wanting a Raptor to buy the F150 instead.
I think that was their marketing strategy for discontinuing the Ranger initially instead of developing the platform. Unfortunately for them they failed to realize that many people didn't want a full size grocery getter and Ford's competitors beat them to the table and now their trying to play catch up.
Now their are a lot of competitors either in the segment or getting ready to roll out their own products within the next six months or so so I hope that this new Ranger is as good as I hope it is otherwise ........
The potential of the Ranger Raptor, should it be brought to the US, will have to compete with the upcoming Chevy ZR2 Brute and Jeep Scrambler Rubicon, both of which should be formidable...
I wonder how many would be willing to pay the price? As for me, I'm balking at the price of the XLT that comes with stuff I don't want standard. My 150 came with things I don't care about either to be fair.

I've been building the XLT vs XL and I agree. The XLT has too much standard stuff. I think I'm going to end up getting the XL with lots of add ons.
It took Ford 2 years to do an aluminum Raptor. The F150 was redesigned for 2015 and the Raptor lagged by 2 full years, coming out for 2017. There was no Raptor in '16 and '17.
It takes time to sort a new vehicle out; Ford needs to get the Ranger into showrooms and onto the street and then they can start messing with alternate engines and special versions like the Raptor. Let them get a foothold, let the plant get to capacity, let sales stabilize, and then ask them for a Raptor.
