Lil help for my ailing electric windows please, the drivers side window stops when going up. It starts going up fine but stops, grinds with a repetitive clicking sound. I can help pull it up by hand but it sounds bad and is not ideal. I have the door panel off and everything seems to be in order, as in no obvious mechanical breakage.
The motor has a gear that drives a gear on the window regulator.
It sounds like the driven gear on the regulator is missing some teeth.
Look it over again closer at the gear.

Ok will do, I am in awe as to how they got all that equipment in there, are we talking ship in a bottle install or is there a secret stamped panel release button? Is there a video link?
If your regulator is in good condition your motor may be failing. You can disassemble the motors and replace the plastic bearings that deteriorate with 6 1/4" x 20 nuts. Just make sure you use plenty of grease when reassembling the motor.
I had to do that to my driver's side motor when the window stopped working. I want to do the passenger's side motor, I just have't gotten around to it.

Thanks again
No hidden button it's never that easy LOL
I gutted my doors a long time ago and will be fun trying to put them back together.
On the bushing I would think if they go bad the gears would not mesh right and that can lead to the gears getting chewed up.

Inside the motor is a round plastic gear, it's notorious for stripping. There are 3 soft wedges that keep the gear aligned, they collapse.

I managed to get my fat hands and sausage fingers back there to remove the motor, even with protective measures I managed to only get cuts on a minor level. It was a challenge but with your advice I at least knew going through the process was mandatory verses exploratory! I think I got this little repair (compared to some of your accomplishments) under control and will have her back together shortly.
I unearth the topic because i've the same problem with the driver window: it goes down perfectly but i must help to go up and ther's a clicking sound. Does i must order the motor only https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...124031&jsn=604 or the window regulator and motor assembly https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...124031&jsn=611 .
I don't understand this for some motor makes " Part numbers may be reversed on some models. Physically check unit off vehicle. " . I live in France so shipping is higher than part and I must not make mistakes !!!!
Difficulties to remove from door?
[edit] rockauto says about motor only " This part does not include the regulator. Manufacturers recommend replacing the complete Window Regulator & Motor Assembly while you have the door panel removed. This will save time and resolve problems that could be caused by either part. "
Hello Phil,
Never thought someone would ask me for advice as I am definitely a novice, but thanks and here is my best advice. I am impressed with how spot on the guys here who have helped me in the past (just look at my threads), and this one is no different. I bought a door panel remover tool (just a fancy pry bar) popped off my panel and reached in with a small ratchet/socket wrench to remove the 3 bolts that held the window motor in. Detached the quick disconnect leads off of the motor and brought it in to my local auto parts store. The guy had one in stock, 28$ and put it back in with little difficulty and she worked like a champ. It seems the internal gears is what failed, just like the other guys said. Best of luck to ya, you got this one.
the motor has an aluminum gear with 3 small cutaways on backside that sorta trap a roundish nylon or plastic ball. They disintegrate in the motor and motor runs fine, just zero leverage. it's 3 bolts to remove elec motor from regulator, flip motor over, there is 1 phillips screw holding a thick plastic back you may have to carefully pry off. Clean all the junk out, put in 3 matching nuts or ballbearings or replacement Dorman stock plastic *****, so your motor has leverage again. hard part? You have to make holes in the metal door with dremel or drill or something to get to electric window motor nuts easy. I think the size socket you need to remove elec motor to regulator nuts are 10mm.
I've rebuilt 4 motors now, from my marquis and from a truck, so I'm getting familiar with it. Very easy to do, anyone can do it, hardest part is getting the motor out of the door.
Phil, you mentioned that your driver's window goes up slowly. Does the window go up faster or easier if your engine is idling faster? If so, then the motor probably just needs rebuilt. You can replace the plastic bearings with 1/4" x 20 nuts as I mentioned earlier. Make sure you add plenty of grease to the motor and use a cleaner like Simple Green to clean the motor/regulator. You can even get the motor rebuilt at an electrical shop if the brushes are going bad.
Thanks to all for the replies ! My motor can't lift the glass , ther's a click sound and i must pull the window up with hand, only the 5 later cm are ok ....
I remove the door panel and take a look at the assembly. The motor and regulator assy. is fixed by 4 rivets (must use a chisel to remove, a drill bit can't be used ...) but i see that ther're 2 holes in the sheet metal to gain access to 2 motor bolts, the third is easy access.
So, to replace/remove the motor, do i need to remove the motor/regulator assembly or the motor can be removed alone ?
You can leave regulator in door. Remove small 10mm bolt/nuts that hold motor to regulator. As I stated above, you have to drill couple holes to easily get to these 3 ten mm bolts. One you can kinda get to with wrench, but other 2, you will have to drill holes in door metal. But it's covered by plastic door panel when you reassy.
I think you should just purchase the entire assembly brand new, use nuts & bolts to replace the rivets. Trying to repair the assembly when it's in its installed location can be a PITA.
