Abe, it's interesting that your Grandpa was paid $648 for is 7 year old truck. My Dad paid $42.50 for my truck when it was 8 years old. As I remember, my truck was pretty well shot when my Dad brought it home--the fenders and wheel wells were all rusted out and the seat upholstery and slip covers ripped up. There were issues with the transmission and the back door latches. The interior and exterior, including most of the chrome, were repainted with a brush. The engine was pretty wore out as well with 80,000 miles on the clock. Your Grandpa must have taken good care of his vehicle vs the young coast guardmen who were driving someone else's truck.

Super cool surprise for you! I feel the same way going through my grandparents pictures and discovering new pics of my truck. Slides can provide very clear digital scans with the right equipment. I bet you could rescan that to enlarge the truck. Probably brighten it up and fix the color too.

I’ll be back more often. After 15 years of starting and stopping and getting sidetracked by other priorities I’m finally taking the plunge. The garage is ready and the truck is coming apart, down to the naked frame. Will start a build thread soon. I realized that there will never be a “good time” for the expense of the project so I’m just diving in. The ‘64 F100 I bought as a shop truck is running strong, and so is the old ‘56 F-250 when started the other day. The engine doesn’t need rebuilding thankfully. I’ll still pull it, clean it up, replace seals and gaskets, and paint it. Good to see some of the early guys still around here in FTE. Not many left.

I'll find a picture of my Grandpa later and post it. He was born in 1898 and died in 1998. He had a big dairy farm and for a time bottled his own milk. Here is a picture of one of his early bottles. The earliest were embossed. The latest were square.
