Looking at pics of my m5od when I had the top cover off, and I cant see the full plug from the inside. How many quarts did you put in yours to bring it to full? It sounds like its overfilled and puking out.
Even though you cant see fluid in the pic, it is full to the fill hole on the side of the trans.
It took 2 qts. I was pretty sure at the time that I was looking at the inside of the fill plug. Maybe I'll pull the top cover again and double check. I still have the floor plate off so won't take much to do that.
That's a good point. I think I'll pull the cover anyway because I'm curious to see where the fluid level is. also,vi posted on the f150 forum and one reply I got made me wonder if I filled it too much because I was looking at the wrong plug.

I can see why you say that. Looking at the photo I can't see it either. But I'm pretty certain you can see it from the right angle with the cover off.
I decided to take a few days off from the project so I could come back at it with fresh eyes. Doesn't often fail to find what I couldn't see before.
And in this case it was a major DUH! Looking over the leak area I saw that the tail housing is missing 3 of 8 bolts that attach it to the transmission. 2 were on the very top and one mid-way down the drivers side. I'm going the hardware store today to find some replacement bolts. There's a big "8" stamped in to the top of the bolt which I assume means it's a grade 8 bolt. Anybody know what the torque spec for these bolts?
sorry...I meant to say that the missing bolts are from where the tail housing meets the transmission...not the top cover. That part is looking ship shape now.

Nothing goes on the transmission cover area except the rubber gasket..
