Back in Black!

Earlier this summer a tree in our side-yard came down in a storm and took out my 2016 F150 Platinum

Fortunately I had replacement coverage on the truck and came out OK with insurance - decided to save a few $$$ and found a lightly used 2016 vs getting a new 2018 - also decided I wanted a long-bed this time vs. the short 5.5 - not a lot to choose from in my target colors - Ruby Red, Grey or Black - found the perfect one in MD but it sold the morning before I was headed there from NC - but then found one that had pretty much everything but the FX4 package just across the line in SC so we went and brought it home yesterday. I live down a long gravel drive-way and know better than to get the black, but just wanted something different from the Ruby Red and that black looks sooooooo good when clean.

Now to get busy making it my own...... I had a Hellwig sway bar and Morimoto LED Fogs that I had never gotten around to putting on the previous truck, so those will go on today, as well as putting the ConsoleSafe, Husky liners & under seat storage bin that I pulled off the old truck into the new - then I need to get wheel liners, mud flap, and appointment with my tint guy and decide what tonneau cover I'm going with this time - most likely another Extang Encore, just longer.... (by the way - if anyone is in the Triad or Triangle NC area and looking for an Extang to fit a 2015-18 5.5 bed, I'm going to have one available as soon as I confirm pricing on replacement rails). I also want to change out the mirrors for tow-mirrors but going to have to find a good deal at a salvage yard - and debating if I want the chrome capped or the black..... finding them with all the needed features for the Platinum is tough.

Finally, I had my ruby red tailgate shield "wrapped" to tone down the chrome - and think I want to do that again on the "new" truck... but still trying to decide.....

Photoshop mock-up....

I bought my tow mirrors from Fairway Fords online store. They are in ohio. When you decide on the trim level, Chrome or not, Ford sells the mirrors in kits of two. They are not listed as a pair. Listed as a kit I got two non power fold with floods, puddle and power adjust for a little under the price of buying a left and a right.. For me it saved about $150 I think buying the kit

Good input and I'll look into that - with the Platinum I don't want to lose the camera, BLISS, etc so I've got to go "all-in" - just a matter of getting the matte black, or chrome (or maybe getting uncapped and then shadow-black painted caps).... I guess for the moment I have after-market "snap-on" tow mirrors which are "ok", so this upgrade probably will be a bit down the road.... a shame the truck in MD sold a day early on me as it had the tow mirrors, FX4, and all.... day late and dollar short as they say....

You can probably get wrecking yard mirrors off of a 2017+ Super Duty, since the cabs/doors are the same as an F150. There are a lot more of the tow mirrors on Super Duties. Pretty rare on F150s.

thats a good idea.... the full featured ones with bliss, camera, etc are even more rare but good idea to check on the super duty. Thanks!
