New to this whole diesel thing so please be nice to me!
Back in July we had to have our 250 6.0 Lariat bullet-proofed because we did the typical 6.0 thing and blew our studs. When they did it, the ABS system threw up a code and when he pulled the codes it was showing an electrical problem in the system so instead of checking before he did it he ripped the entire ABS system out and then when he went to look for the parts he needed he discovered they were on a nationwide backorder. He hooked back up the brakes but left the rest just hanging out. This has affected everything from our mileage, to the cruise control to the speedometer. We contacted him and he stated he threw out the part so he's not even able to mail us the now missing part. We are searching online for this part but to be quite honest we have no idea what we are looking for and don't want to purchase the wrong one. Can anyone help me?!
He ripped out the control module or he ripped out the whole system? The whole system would be an extensive project to rip out, but that's kind of what your post is making it seem like. If he actually ripped the whole system out, you're in huge trouble. It will be insanely expensive and crazy time consuming to put back together. I don't even know where to begin... Your best/cheapest bet is to hit the junkyard and pull all the parts off another truck. But, no offense, it doesn't sound that you are very mechanically inclined, so I don't think thats an option for you either.
You're looking into the thousands I would estimate. I hope you can force that "mechanic" to pay for it. Good luck.
This is what he removed. And you are correct, I am not mechanically inclined because I'm a chick with my first diesel. I don't plan on fixing it on my own, I want to order the PART on my own and am trying to make sure I know what I'm getting before I do that. Thanks!
The stupidity of that entire situation is mind boggling. Good luck with that motor work.
You need to find a local salvage yard that has a truck of the same year, 2WD/4WD, motor and trans. They should be able to pull the entire unit with the electronics so it can be installed in your truck.
You can buy a remanufactured ABS module that along with the mounting bolts looks like all that is missing in your picture..You will just have to pay the core charge That's where I would start. After that you can see what codes you get and deal with the original problem.
I just went through this on my F350 as it was randomly pulling hard left when I applied the brakes and would quit when the ABS went into action until I went over a bump and then I had a sinking pedal. Replaced several things until I did the manual test of the control module and that was the problem. I couldn't find anywhere to buy then either new or reman so I picked up one at the bone yard and it fixed my issue.
