This may not be on the right forum but I'd thought I'd ask. I just got a 02 F150 6.2L V6 and it has 110,800 miles from my wife's grandfather and he didn't take the best care of it, nore drive it to much the last the last 2 years. But I have noticed a problem but I'm not 100% sure the cause but here's what I've notcied. Is after I set the cruise control and I have to slow down it works fine, I press the break it slowed down right everything's good, but after I go to start getting speed and near the speed I had the cruise set to before the gas pedal locks in place my RPMs lock out at 5k and when I press on the break nothing happenes it won't move this has happened twice and both times I just shifted to neutral turned off the engine then turned it back on and had no problems. Afterwards. Nothing I've found online has really helped and was wanting to see what everyone's thoughts was. I'm thinking it might be the cruise control brake but not 100% sure.
,With this fault, do not use Cruise Control until the problem has been found and repaired.
If you do you risk accident.
Lets correct a couple things then how CC works.
The motor is a 4.2L v6.
Break ……….is { Brakes.}
.
How CC works.
A. Must be above 30 mph to engage and will auto disengage below that point from speed sensing
B. There are 3 ways the CC module can be shut down.. power switch turned off, holding the Coast switch operated and Brake application.
The Brake application does two things, the Brake switch applies a 12v inhibit signal to the module and the master cylinder pressure switch cuts power to the CC both at the same time (by Law)..
From your description, the CC cable may be the cause and/or the Brake switch is not shutting down the CC module or the CC is not disengaging below 30 mph.
Check out all these functions to be positively sure they all work and none are suspect. Do more than just Look.
Be sure the cable from the CC to the throttle is operational, does not stick and is hooked up properly at the throttle location because that's your throttle control.
If it holds the throttle open for any reason the motor goes out of your throttle control.
Never put trans into Neutral while CC is operational. See owner manual.
Again do not use CC until you find and fix the problem.
Review pages 85-87 of the user manual.
Good luck.
From what I could find out pushing down on the brake pedal wouldn't move at all, gas pedal the same. I pressed the cruise off button, as well as held down on the coast button to try and slowed the speed. So neutral to kill speed and letting RPMs jump for the 2 seconds it took to turn the truck off seemed to ne to only idea. But I'll definitely be looking into the cable to see if that's what it is. Thank you
It's normal response for the engine to RPM in Neutral when the CC is turned on while above 30 mph..
That's why it should not be done.
It shows you the CC is activated and there is some other issues you need to find.
Good luck.
so I feel stupid the reason it was sticking is because the plastic housing had come loose and was sticking the throttle in the open position I found this out by when it happened when I went to accelerate then merge onto the Interstate and throttle lock so I killed the engine, pull over to the side of the road and lifted the hood just to see if there's anything wrong and sure enough the throttle body lever was stuck inside the plastic casing moved the casing everything work just fine.. for now
