Hi folks. I’m new to the forum and also to pickups. I’m looking at an F-250 for pulling a travel trailer for a few big trips we have scheduled over the next couple of years. Using the tool on Ford’s website, I’ve specced what is more-or-less a fully loaded crew cab, 4x4, gas Lariat with the 6.5’ box. This spec doesn’t seem to exist on dealer lots in 2019 and I’m prepared to order. I don’t need the truck right away though (the trailer won’t be delivered until March), so I have no issues ordering.
If I found a similarly speced 18 would there be any reason to NOT get it if I could get a good deal on it? Presumably dealers are going to want to make room for incoming 2019s. From what I can tell the differences between the 18 and 19 gas modes are largely cosmetic (please correct me if I’m wrong). I see this truck as a utility vehicle (in other words, not a “lifestyle” vehicle) and won’t upgrade it until necessary.
If you’re thinking towing gas you will probably want a 4.3 axle, which you are about as likely to find as a Sasquatch on a dealer lot. A gooseneck hitch, which you may want, is also relatively uncommon on dealer lots.
’18 to ‘19 differences are minimal, but since you reference loaded lariats two would be Ford Pass (remote start your truck with your iPhone, WiFi in your truck) and the B&O stereo vs the Sony (people seem to it is better than the Sony, but the audiophiles complain about both).
What trailer are you buying? F250 are great tow rigs. But if you are getting a 5th Wheel or GN type trailer. Check your pin weight before you buy a truck.
Bumper pull trailers don't put as much weight on the trucks rear axle, So the F250's work great for them.
It seems the biggest regret people have over buying a truck is finding out they are overweight on their rear axle.
For me I bought a 2017 in December when I could have bought a 2018. Factors that made up my mind were
1. I knew exactly what price would be. Current rebates were published vs no idea what rebates would be in 8 weeks if I ordered.
2. I had a Private Cash offer from Ford that expired in 3 days. No guarantee that I would get another $750 PCO in 8 weeks.
3 Dealer that had the truck I liked offered me $5000 more in trade than the dealer I was going to order from. Hmm, do I take the higher trade now or wait and hope I can get that high in 8 weeks.
4. Buying a late '17 put me at low mileage vs most other 2017 trucks. I put a lot of miles on my trucks, I always get dinged when I go to trade because they are high mileage for the model year.
I can't tell you that any of the above apply to you. Do your research and see what your best buy will be based on what you think your purchase will be both now and the future,
Hey folks. Thanks for the input. I placed an order today for a 2019.
@paintedhorse—it’s an airstream. Totally within the 250’s limits and payload (and then some). Nice truck you’ve got!
Sounds like you know what you want. You’ll love it. A nice benefit Of the gassers is extra payload over the diesel... Enjoy the new truck when it comes in!

Did you order it with a 4.30 rear gears? The 2019 CCSB gas engine F250 max conventional bumper pull towing capacity with 3.73 rear gear is 12,500 lbs where the 4.30 is 15,000 lbs.

No, I ordered the 3:73 e-locking axle. My trailer has a max weight of 7,600 lbs, so I'm all good.
I just picked up a 2017 F250 Lariat SCAB 4x4 with 8' bed yesterday. I got it with 12K on the clock. Dealer traded well for my 2014 F150 3.5EB. I'm looking forward to everything except the gas mileage, but I can live with that. I can't wait to tow with it. We do not have a large TT now, but are looking to move up - maybe a Grand Design 150 series 5th wheel. I'll be interested to see what you think about your 19 when it comes in.
