So I bought a harness from Naviks. Took about 2 hours to install as the one I needed wasn’t “exactly “ plug and play. I had to tap into 1 wire on the passenger floor area. $360 for the harness and $44 for the camera. .
The harness is mostly plug and play but I added the ability to use the rear camera while in motion. That part requires splicing in a relay that bypasses the speed safety feature and allows viewing of the factory rear camera at any speed. That part was tough because it’s in a bad spot with very little wire to work with making the 2 splices more difficult than they should be.
the front camera is activated by depressing the volume/power button on the factory stereo for 7 seconds and the rear camera is activated by double tapping the front defrost button or obviously when you shift into reverse.
I wanted a front camera for parking. If I had it to do over I would have bought the 360 camera system from the factory but live and learn. This Naviks product is a viable option for adding a front camera and having video in motion.
Here’s a quick video demonstration with no commentary. The first screen is my front camera.... then I swap to the rear camera and it remains on after I shift to drive and start moving.... then again I swap back to the front camera.
