Purchased a 2004 Supercrew from dealers inventory during 2 day sellathon. I love this truck more each time I drive it. Had all options I wanted except DVD. No problem, just go aftermarket. Well, in the meantime I found rail mounted DVD on E-Bay for $401.00 (Johnson Controls), but no wiring harness. Ordered wiring harness from local dealer $70.00 my cost. Harness runs from DVD to front dome lights and then rearward to pick up rear dome light and down drivers side rear pillar where two connectors mate perfectly to existing counterparts. Thats where I am stuck. You see the factory ordered DVD has an additional wiring harness that comes from the radio and ? to integrate into these two connectors which fills up the 20 or so empty wire slots. Well I never have taken no for an answer until now-----maybe.
That wire harness is not available yet.Run a search on dvd system .There are a lot of post about this problem but there are no answers yet .You are stuck for now. Sorry
Mike, thanks for your input. Believe me, I have searched every post for an answer and I might have missed something. It's my opinion I am ahead of the curve on this not behind, everyone else is talking about "a" wiring harness meaning one. You will have to have two seperate harnesses, the one I mentioned plus a major harness coming to the rear to replace the existing one (which to replace this would be time and cost prohibitive). If I had a pin-out chart on the DVD and the radio I might be able to make this work. Someone like Rambunctious might be able to get this, but its my impression JC doesn't actually manufacture the unit.
I think the critical harness is the one that makes the can interface work with the accessorie.Anyone can run power and ground to the rail system.Hang in there for a little while. The harness may be available for the 2005 model to allow dealer install of dvd player. It is not available to Rambunctious yet because he is crying as much as the rest of us to get one for his truck.
Chrysler uses CDC buss communication (a pair of twisted wires between the body control module, transmission control module, instrument controls ect., and the PCM allowing communication between components). Maybe with previous DVD players you could provide + and - and use the headphones seperate from any other component, but with out the CAN buss I don't think you can with this DVD.
If what you have is truly the "Ford factory" (Johnson Controls) DVD that is meant for the overhead rail system I think I can help you. I live in the Atlanta area and I just got one installed in my F-150 Lariat SCrew. These guys have them in stock and I am sure that you could get the wiring harness you need through them.
Contact Bobby Heslep at Speedometer Service Company in Roswell, GA. His number is 770-569-8255. He's a good guy and can probably hook you up. Let us know how it goes.
we are making great progress with ford regarding the harness. thanks to comments by you guys here on the board, we were able to confirm for ford that there is a demand for the dvd after the vehicles are build, so thanks for the interest !!!!
still a couple months out though.
we did recently find an installer who created his own harness. it is exaclty like the one we are proposing!!!!!
he sells it for about $140.
i will post the contact this week, don't have it right now.
it is true that the trucks that did not have dvd when build, have some of the harness in the truck, but it is a "dead" harness and does not connect all the way to the radio.
i do have a harness in my truck for my dvd. it is the proposed harness we are releasing with ford.
just fyi, We did design, engineer, and manufacture the dvd and rail system. we will have one of our harness suppliers make this harness.
