crank material variations
Good Day Gents:
Was it here I saw a minor treatise on the ThriftPower (144 - 300) crank over the years? I remember some1 laying out forged v regular type factors and years for these changes. There's questions more on the "small block" ('small i6' 144, 170, 200, 250) than the "big block" ("big six" 240, 300) as a fella wants to do some 'increase power' mods on the peppy 200/3.3 using a stock crank.
Seemed to me it said: early yrs were regular, later went forged or nodular or sompin, and back to the less rigorous thru to the end (early 80s). It came out in '60, the upgrade might have been in mid or late 60s, and they went back down thru to '83 when ending.
Any valid data appreciated (cites help). Thank you so much.

Like I said, I can't find anything. I know 300s had steel cranks in heavy trucks, but I'd bet the smaller sixes were all cast iron. Here is something to slug your way through, not sure it discusses material, but it's the only thing I can find without getting a splitting headache on this. Good luck to the student:

they just seek ID info as the sort I thought I saw somewhere (just as esoteric to me).
I'll pass it on w/your name attached as the researcher~
Thnx again
