Help me figure this out please

I have a 86 F150. Falls on its face in fourth gear then won’t run for crap starts idling at 500 rpms and don’t want to stay running. I have already changed fuel pump and filter also cap and rotor as well as coil if you have any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated I also have blown out the fuel lines

Thx Tanaka

Welcome to FTE.
Maybe an admin can move it to the main area as this is the FAQ area.

Any way we need a little more information on the truck.
What motor does it have?
Guessing the trany is a stick being you put it in 4th?
Does this happen in any other gear or just 4th?
When you replaced the fuel pump did you replace ALL the rubber hoses, that includes the ones at the tank(s)?
4x4 or 4x2 truck?

Trying to figure the site out virgin you might say thee truck is a 300 six with a four speed manual tranny and it started doing this on a camping trip in fourth then progressively got worse as we drove home it is a 4x2 I did not change rubber hoses but will next the truck also has a one barrel carb I do not know what brand it is the truck also has a ton of emissions stuff ac and cruise it as well only has 78 k original miles hope that sparks some more ideas thank you Dave

To zero in even more on what Dave said - check (or better, replace) the rubber fuel line from the fuel tank sender to the steel fuel line that takes the fuel forward toward the engine.

I have found on some trucks that this line has never been replaced, has cracked and rotted some and is somewhat porous in places, and when it wiggles around from driving it allows air to get sucked into the line instead of fuel from the tank, This causes intermittent and temporary fuel starving.

If you have two tanks and the problem is worse on one tank than the other this problem is even more likely.
If so I would replace the line on both tanks.

I would change out all the rubber fuel lines just because of the age of them and they can go bad on the inside and look good on the out side.

Being you have an 86 4.9 / 300 six you should have a feed back engine control system. Because of this you have a rude computer and it can tell you what might be wrong.
I don't know just how to do it, look at the top of this area in the FAQ to see if you can find "Hoy to pull codes".
Once you have codes post them up and we can help from there.

Yeah, a 1986 6-banger has a computer-controlled carburetor & distributor, pull the codes and see what the computer thinks is going on.

So I finally got into contact with the ford guy in town and he happen to have from his old truck a Carter carburetor one barrel even so he let me have it and he had rebuilt it in the past so I put it on and it fired right up and purrs like a kitten now I just need to slow down the idle. Can not figure it out have tried some things and nothing changes it hummm thinking I might just need some more advice ha ha hope someone on here knows how to do it I’ll search the how to as well THANKS AGAIN GUYS

Check for a vacuum leak which will cause a high speed idle.
