Hello all, was just wondering if anyone has used Krown undercoating or any other undercoating on there Superduties? This is my first Ford and I want the frame to last a long time. My current '01 2500HD is almost rotted out from rust and would like to prevent this from happening to my new ride as I keep them for a long time. Is this necessary with these trucks or am I just jumping the gun on my new ordered truck? Also is there another brand I should be looking into for undercoating? Thanks in advance!!!
I do not have firsthand experience or knowledge of the KROWN treatment, but it gets good reviews. I have read it is Canadian based? Fluid film has been used by plow guys for as long as it has been around... I had the NH OIL treatment done to my 2017 3 days after I picked it up. Did a lot of research and this was the one for me. The entire underneath of my truck is covered and this treatment needs to be redone every 2 years -I plow my property with my truck . If you live where they use any kind of deicer on roads, pre or post, weather, you need to have some protection under your vehicle imho Too many vehicles "return to mother earth" from the bottom up.......would prefer my f-250 lasts a long time and have no problem spending a couple of hundred every 2 years to help achieve that goal. good luck with your trucks .
I’m in Maine and a big fan of fluid film. It is on both my vehicles, including my 2017 Super Duty. From my perspective, the price we pay for vehicles these days, it is well worth $100-$200 per year to keep them rust free. I typically hold onto vehicles for 14 years plus. Stuff works great, even in the winter salt lands of the northeast.
Just picked up a new to me 2016 F150 XLT, taking it in to Krown tomorrow. All my vehicles have been done every other year and look as good as they did when purchased.
It helps deter the nuts bolts and frame from rusting in our Canadian winters. Never had an issue and they do a thorough job, removing tail lights, inside tailgate and inside all doors etc. well worth the 150 bucks in my opinion. Congrats on your new Ford Plumbob98 !
Thanks everyone for the replies!!! I tend to keep the my vehicles for a really long time and yes for the $150 it seems like a great investment, especially with the cost of these nowadays. Thanks BabyBearOne! I can't wait 'till it arrives. Already spending money on it and hasn't even been built yet. LOL!!
A customer of mine just purchased a 2018 and had the dealer undercoat it. I was interested in that since I live in the salt and snow belt. (MN). Did a lot of research and I think Krown (not available to me), New Hampshire and Fluid film (in that order) was pretty good.
Then he told me that by getting it done at the dealer with more of a spray tar on frame and More liquid like stuff in doors, they would also warranty the truck exterior paint for 10 years. I like that....10 years on the paint would be worth dealer doing it.
I had the Fluid Film brand undercoating done about 6 months ago or so. I did a lot of research intonFluid Film and Krown. It would seem you can’t go wrong with either product. Time will tell. Here are a couple interesting videos.
I got Steel Shield applied to my new truck and as long as it is inspected/touched up every year my truck is warrantied for perforation as long as i own it. It stays in a tacky/waxy state similar to other products like fluid film and also offers sound deadening properties. One winter in and it still looks new underneath. Satisfied so far. Hopefully it goes the distance.
