Ecm question

I feel dumb for asking this, and maybe i should of thought of this 1st but which ecm would be correct for my truck a 50 pin or 60?

the reason i ask because im 99% sure my ecm isnt controling my truck properly and when i replace the original i didnt count the pins on it and the sold me a 50 pin ecm.

I didnt think the ecm pin was a big issue when i order it but now im 2nd guessin.

Any help would be appricated

A 50-pin connector will not fit a 60-pin device.

Your truck uses a 60 pin ECA.
What engine do you have ?

My truck has a 302 in it.
im thinking i bought the wrong ecm for it because when i went up to oreillys the asked me 50 or 60 pin and i said 50 because i they thought 50 was it and it pluged right in but yesterday i thought about it and i got to looking some of the pins dont line up.

so that got me wondering when they ask me the pins 50 or 60 they were referring to the connector not the ecm.

but i wanted to have a second opinion before i go order the 60 pin ecm.

Now would be a good time to spray the ECM connector with contact cleaner and re-insert a few times to clean corrosion off pins.

2 or 4 wheel drive ?
Automatic or manual ?

You should do some troubleshooting before you start throwing parts at it.
Get your codes checked first.
What is it doing wrong that you suspect the ECA/Computer?

Take a picture of what you bought.
If the autoparts still have your old computer, go back and get it so you can get the original numbers off of it.

My phone wont let me upload but i did go and tested and see if the pins line up and i found 4 pins are missing from the ecm.
pins 11,19,23,47 are not on my current ecm and my connector has spots for them to plug in

My ecm has 50 pins total. And my connector uses 36 out of 60 pins if i counted correctly. Idk if i have a 6 cylinder computer or if i do have the right one the computer i bought with the truck wasnt the out of it someone thought it might of been a ranger computer but im stumped as of right now

I didnt ever get the original one back but it wasnt the right one since someone replaced it before with a mustang computer but i did find out the 50 pin i order from oreilly wasnt correct because they skip a few pins and the manufacturer i think it cardone states that some wont line up or have extra pins.

so i have to order a 60 pin Monday to fully fix my problem with the 50 pin i never had the return pin 47 and didnt have 11,19,23 which someone told me to look at that pin but i never thought of the ecm itself since it was new.

but if anyone order a reman computer always double check and make sure the pins line up.

hopefully Tuesday ill know if it fixs

What year is the truck, is it 2WD or 4WD, does the 302 have a carb or fuel injection? What trans does it have? If A/T, is it a C5 or AOT (automatic overdrive)?

There are dozens of computers listed for 1985 F150 302, but I need all the correct info.

The one you removed had an ID number on it as does the one you replaced. What are these numbers?

Please, when asking questions, list ALL the pertinent info, we are not mind readers.

Its a 1986 ford f150 302 efi automatic but idk what transmission in it, its not a c4 its i think its a c6 but im not sure but thats all i know about it. For the ecm like i said i never had a original to start with, what i bought it with was some mustang computer that didnt work, if you know a way i could tell what my orignal code for the ecm is i would appreciate that
Alot that would help me alot.

My best bet was to buy a new ecm and tried it and i did but i never paid attention to the pins locations.
i have to order a 60 pin tommorrow since it has the pin i need.

the correct number of pins my truck used from the factory was 36/60 idk why the reman ecm are only 50s and 60s but i know thats my problems.

for advice if you order a reman for these from cardone go with the 60 pin unless you think the 50 may work but idk what the 50 is used for maybe the 4.9s idk
Edit the remans ecm code started with i think was F5TF but im not entirely sure
