a/c or heat - not both
Help - I have a 1999 F150 4x4 and I was getting cold air but no hot air. After turning the temp **** back and forth several times, I now have hot air but my a/c no longer works. I've checked the **** to make sure it is turning the shaft and all is ok there. Any suggestions where to look first? Thanks.

There is a rack and pinion in there that changes it from hot to cold. The pinion could have slipped off the rack. I would check that first. If it is then I would go to a junk yard and get one from there. Get the whole unit. You will probably have to pull half the dash apart to get to this. If not this, then you should check the motor for it. If you look down where the hump is in the floorboard under the dash there will be a vent like plastic guard. This just pulls out and the motor sits right there behind the vent like guard. With the truck ingition in the on position turn the **** and see if you can hear it working. If it makes a really loud grinding noise then it is probably time to change it. There should be very little sound but nothing that you would think that wouldn't sound right. Hope this helps.

It could be just the ****, I was having the same problem, spent 8 bucks for a new **** and everything works fine.
