My cheater method of dealing with bulky panels (hood, trunk lid, door, etc) when working solo in the garage... judiciously placed ratcheting nylon straps hanging down from the rafters. A couple of the inexpensive 1 inch straps work fine for just about anything except for things that require the cherry picker due to weight. Makes it a lot easier when trying to align bolt on panels & doors too.

Here is a way that I like to use and it helps avoid accidents. If you put a stud on each side of the hood it helps with slipping. When you have fresh paint on that is the last thing you want
