Hello all,
i tried ordering a gas door that works with the 2018 2.7. that was a fail. Went to the local Pepboys, AutoZone and Advanced. All struck out for in stock.
Anyone try a door that locks and works? Or the cap that locks for these new capless systems?
I want one to prevent kids ( mine) and others in the neighborhood from messing around and putting things in the tank. Not concerned with theft.
Any model numbers that worked or had issues with? I just got a plain door when I asked for locking. Last time I use Amazon for that.
I'm more concerned about crap and crud getting in the tank than i am theft. Any ideas?
I really don`t think you should be concerned about that. They have been out long enough and I think Ford has this feature perfected otherwise you`d be hearing about it on this Forum and others. Also, other manufactures are going to this feature.
As long as the doort seal stays intact you won't ave a problem with crud. Water doesn't get in it at a high pressure car wash. this is my second truck and 5th vehicle with the capless set up and I have never had a problem.
There is two doors on these and between the first and second is a drain for debris. No real issues with these since the 2011 MY. I see no reason to lock them.
Worse design ever?
Care to explain because if it`s so bad, why are other makes adopting or have adopted the same design.
Also, what kind of problems have you had with it.
Just wondering.
I think the concern is some malicious or mischievous felon, or just an ordinary guy, could stuff something non-liquid... let's say a south bound biscuit popping out a north bound dog, into the fuel fill. Now what? Is the remedy to take the hose and toothbrush with soapy water and wash it out because it "just passes through and out the trapdoor onto the ground?" Not saying it won't, but... we'll... YOU FIRST.
I have no concerns about liquid passing out before the tank, but if something is held in the first section and the next gas nozzle pushes it into the tank fill, then it's more than an "oops!"
smokewagon,I'm glad I don't live in your neighborhood.!
Likewise, I work in heavily crackhead infested areas and you are more likely to get your window smashed or gas tank punctured than to have someone put something in your filler neck.
