Poor wiper performance

As my factory blades wore, they developed chatter across the windshield,..........time to replace. I've tried three other brands and get the same thing, its annoying and looks like it could strip out the splines on the wiper shafts (lol). Anyone else have this and what is the cure? It seems as the wiper arm spring tension is too firm.

Soak the wipers in Aerospace 303 before you install and treat once or twice a year. They will last years if you do this.

lol great minds and all that...

I have a suggestion that have good success with.
I use Aerospace 303. Using a blue shop paper towel and soak it with 303.
The let the new wiper soak in it for 5-10 minutes.
Months later washed the 4RNR and the wipers did not have the black degraded residue of wipers deteriorating.

Here is the link. I'm a cheapskate, and use this channel for lots of money saving tips.

I’ve used 303 for years but never thought of using it on wiper blades. I am a huge fan of rain-x though.

Same problem with mine, drives me nuts! I thought I was the only one. Lol. I’ll have to give that 303 a try.

The chatter doesn’t hurt anything. It’s just the rubber blade skipping because it’s nice and sticky. I agree wiping them down with a protectant like 303 is a good idea. The other thing that can be done is to clean the windshield well and protect with rain x. This also helps the blade slide properly. I am on my third set of inew blades compliment of the service package. When it gets streaky, they will replace. Rain x windshield washer fluid also works but some have noted issues with the low windshield washer tank not working, or false alarms due to rain x.

If you search this guys channel he uses 303 on serpentine belts, tire all rubber seal and how to condition leather seats.

The 303 reduces UV degradation and helps keep it supple therefore reducing all that chatter.
Clean glass is a excellent contributor as well. I use Barkeepers Friend. It's like a jeweler's rouge and really cleans the glass spotless literally.
Then a coat of Rain-X and voila' clear driving ahead.

Keep in mind most windshield cleaners (and Rain-X) are methanol based which is really hard on rubber as it prematurely dries it out. I too have replaced mine 3-times in just my first year of ownership. It wasn't until getting a good quality set & of course Rain-X, then, and only then, did the blades not chatter. The 303 protectant tip- good advice; I'll be sure to give it a go on my next cleaning frenzy- Thanks for the tip OP

I will try the 303 but I will say I also use Rainx windshield cleanse (with mild abrasive) then protect with liquid rainx and have good results.

When I wax the paint I hit the windshield with some polish and then some wax. I try to use glass specific polish and wax but not always. It depends on how lazy I am that day. Keeping the glass smooth prevents chatter with my wipers. I've been trying a glass sealant from Adam's Polishes. It works really well for about 2 months and then it has to be reapplied. At highway speeds the wipers are almost not necessary. The water just flies off. My OEM wipers are 22 months old.

Rain-X is good. I like their products also. Expensive. And other people will testify to why their preferred expensive wiper blade is worth the money. I know a guy who swears by PIAA. People love Michelin.

Today, the best blades are allegedly something called a beam blade. Or so the marketing claims.

I just ordered a set of AC Delco from Amazon. I'm not allergic to putting $7 GM wiper blades on my Ford, when the Motorcraft brand is $27. I think that the Rain-X was about $20 per blade.

My stock blades also had bad chatter. After w months I replaced them with some quality Rain X blades and they have been perfect ever since. Truck sits outside 100% of the time. Wipers are smooth as silk.

I ‘I would also 100% endorse the Aerospace 303 and I will have to try that on my blades to see how long I can make these work. The 303 gives amazing results on my tonneau cover.
