01' 5.4 extended E250 indentification help
I have the above mentioned van and am having some dragging brake issues in the fronts. I have purchased new hydraulic lines and was replacing them this weekend. However, the bleed bolts in both calipers were rusted in good and broke off after trying to get them unstuck. Heat and PB Blaster for a day did not help. Calipers and brackets I believe are in good shape otherwise. I am looking at RockAuto as I do for all my stuff, but thought instead of ordering and waiting a few days and paying shipping, I could just get some remanufactured ones from Advanced or AZ today since I'm off work.
Both stores are asking if I have a 8cyl. L 5.4L FI SOHC or a 8cyl. M 5.4L MFI CNG SOHC. I have no idea what the heck the difference is. I do have the 5.4L V8, and I am sure its fuel injected, but what is the L or M all about? I also know its a single overhead cam too.
Any reviews on the these "Wearever calipers"? I just assume stick to Motorcraft. Lastly, think I should stab at getting the broken bleed screws out with an EZ-out? I'm guessing its going to be a drill out and retap operation from the way it was stuck in the there too.
Thanks for your guys' help.
Sid
I have had very bad luck with the calipers from Oreilly's and PepBoys.
First time I needed calipers for my van, I went to PepBoys. Right out of the gate, I felt the calipers were getting stuck and overheating. I thought I had bad break hoses so I replaced them both to no avail. I left them like that for a few months until I could not take it any more. I forwent my warranty at PepBoys and went to Oreilly's. The first set only lasted a year or less when I discovered one piston in both calipers was not working properly. I exchanged them, and now, more than a year later, I am in the same predicament again. Needless to say, I am looking for new calipers for my van. I will give RockAuto a try and order the Motorcraft, or Centric Posiquiet or AC Delco.
Good luck!
