New guy here and I've been thinking of ordering up a new truck. Kinda want to go the carpet delete option. Is there a reason not too? I see all to many people get a truck and then get the mats that cover basically everything so carpet doesn't get dirty, salty, sandy ect.... I had an old 04 ranger with rubber floor. Loved it. My current 06 2500HD has carpet but it's barely visable under my weathertechs...
I had the carpet delete in my 2018 and ordered it in my 2019 as well. It's great. The vinyl flooring is very nice and thick, good fit and finish. Some prefer the look of carpet but after having the vinyl flooring and realize how quickly foot traffic brings in dirt, sand, etc. I am glad I don't have carpet where most of it would settle into the fibers and just be hidden from view. I use a vacuum to get the loose stuff then wipe it down with a wet cloth.
I don't think there has been a compelling reason established either way. I prefer it without, but that is me. Some feel there is an added sound buffering effect to have carpet...It really just boils down to personal preference.
I got my '17 F350 Platinum with premium vinyl floor. I run Husky liners and they cover 98% of the floor anyways. The other week, I pulled the mats out to wash them and took the ~1 minute to clean the premium vinyl floor in the truck -- by using the garden hose!
Regarding sound:
Carpet delete is my preference, I never noticed that the stereo had a "tinny" quality to it until I added seat covers. The sound mellowed out with this addition (think sound studios with foam on the walls), it wasn't a huge difference but it was one nonetheless. As for road noise, no difference at all, the vinyl uses the same backing as the carpet does and that's where your road noise insulation comes from.
I don't see any reason to have it in a truck. Mine has it, I wish it didn't. If I ever have the time or patience to order one it won't have it (or sunroof).
Why pay extra for vinyl floor if you're going to cover it anyway? I've been driving since 1974 and a vinyl covered floor was considered the cheap route. I fully understand having it in work trucks since fleet vehicles are typically the least equipped. Workers generally do not take good care of company vehicles (not as much they would their personal vehicles), so there's no sense in letting them have the luxury of carpet. I went with carpet in my KR, a "luxury pickup" because vinyl is not luxurious. Alas, my wife also nixed my desire for cab lights because they'd make my KR look like a work truck. And yes, I covered my carpet with WeatherTech mats, and stowed the King Ranch monogrammed carpet floor mats for reinstalling at resale / trade-in.
Why pay extra for vinyl floor if you're going to cover it anyway?
Two reasons:
1. Mats don't cover the floor 100% nor guarantee that liquid WON'T get under them.
2. Cleaning liquids off of a vinyl floor is MUCH easier than trying to clean it out of carpeting.
Do the vinyl floors arrive at the dealer covered with plastic? I ask because there's a 2015 F450 King Ranch in Williamsburg, VA listed on Craigslist for $48K with 81K miles, and it still has plastic on the floors and advertised as, "Floor mats never have been stepped on." https://norfolk.craigslist.org/cto/d...656880005.html
I have it on my Lariat. Much easier than carpet. It’s a $50 credit on a Lariat. Higher trim levels it’s extra cost. I don’t think I would get it if I had to pay extra.
