well gents, looks like the big man is down for the count. Had a rippin muscle spasm today - I couldn't even get out of my bed to get help, I had to wait until my girlfriend came looking for me. I laid in my bed for an hour, screaming and twisting around. There's even "claw marks" in the wall and drywall under my fingernails. Took an ambulance to the ER, got some injections (only took 5 hours ), spasm is starting to subside.
And I had all sorts of great plans for today and tomorrow...
Been there, done that. I feel your pain. One day I visited a client and when I was done I raised the hatchback of my car and put my briefcase in. I felt a slight twinge. By the time I got home I couldn't walk because the pain was so bad. I had to roll out of the car and crawl on my hands and knees up to the door.
If you have never had a muscle spasm you just don't know how lucky you are.
I've lived on pain meds for so long I can't remember. And that doesn't even count for when I get spasms. Thats another matter entirely!! I originally injured my back in the Army, but they don't believe me. Consequently, after numerous back re-injuries, my back is about trashed. My Dr took me off all meds for a couple weeks, because my liver function was going downhill from taking meds for so long. Within two weeks, after all meds had completely left my system, I was completely bed ridden. All I could do is lay there and hurt....couldn't even go sit on the dang John.
I empathize with anyone who has back pain and say BS to anyone who says," When my back hurts I just work harder!" they truly don't know back pain from a muscular ache.
Take care of your back now, while you are still young. Even though, when I was your age, I was already out of the service and trying to make it on my own.... and a lot of hard labor jobs. I regret not going to college and getting a degree. I work in a professional position, but without a degree, I'm as far as I can go.
Matt, I know exactly what it feels like, and it ain't too lovely. I was getting ready to go to work one morning when my back spazzed. Felt like the Hulk was trying to fold me over backwards. I'm lay'in on the floor making noise and the dog thinks that looks like fun and grabs my pants and starts growling and shaking me. All the noise and commotion rouses the wife, who wants to know why I am playing with the dog at this hour, instead of going off to work.
I did that one time after two weekends of working on a roof. Hit me all of a sudden. Would take half an hour to get out of a chair. Missed 2 weeks of work. A guy that uses the electrode type zapper helped me. I know how you feel. I had a pulled muscle. Don't ever get a back operation.
I thought that people who had back spasms were full of bunk until I was crouched over, twisted sideways and sneezed. I was a little sore the rest of the day. The next day, I sneezed again. I was literally crying it hurt so bad. That taught me to be really careful when lifting, etc...Take care of yourself now. You don't want this to become chronic.
ahhh man i feel for ya..having to go through that much pain for that long, i hope the pain killers hold man, did the doctor say...why it happened, do u have some kind of condition?
If there isn't a medical problem, it will go away. It just takes some time and patience.....Funny thing is, I still cringe right before I sneeze, an it's been more than 3 years since my episode....
BigMatt....
Also been there done that ... I know you and others may think it's "snake oil" treatment but find a good, recommended, therapist.... Spasms are caused by muscles, therapists work with relaxing muscles... Listen to them and do the exercises they tell you to do ... Pills and chiropractors are a temporary crutch that don't cure a thing.....Like I said, for what it's worth, I've been there...Good luck..
Well it was a chiropractor that fixed me up. He actually made a house call. Gave me a shot of muscle relaxer and taped me up, then I had about half a dozen sessions with the electric massage (I think its called a Tenns machine) and bone snapping. That was at least ten years ago. I get a twinge once and a while but usually if I lay on the floor and bend my knees and put my feet up in a chair that seems to help. I've been to some chiropractors that just want you to keep commig back again and again, but I think this guy was one of the good ones.
It's real, and it hurts like bugger. I've been there and done that too. It's not too bad since I quit snowmobiling and I'm not dirtbiking as much, (the office job is probably a factor too) but I used to suffer almost daily.
Heat and Entrophen were my two best friends. Robaxacet works great too.
