Hello FTE, I searched the forums and couldn't find a satisfactory answer. Are there any meaningful differences, other than cosmetic, between the KR and Platinum? I can't seem to find any, they configure the same. TIA.
Interiors are different obviously. Some say the KR leather is better quality. You can get chrome bumpers on the KR instead of the painted ones that rock chip and rust. The KR have more old man bling (chrome) instead of the satin look. My KR is optioned and subsequently priced the same as a platy. I have an 18 and love the burnt orange interior but don't appreciate the logo on the center consol arm rest because my elbow rests on the cut out which isn't too comfortable. No cool lit door sill for the KR though. I am pretty sure those were discontinued in 18' but you can still get them and the wiring is still there iirc.

Ok this is good to know...the plat has lighted door sills but the KR doesn't?

If you fully load a King Ranch, it is basically a Platinum with a different interior and grille. The appeal of the KR for me over the Platinum was that there's more customization available and I was able to order without some items that I didn't want. If I had ordered a Platinum I would have been stuck with them:
18" wheels (Platinum forces you to get 20")
Adaptive steering (I'm sure it's nice, no interest in paying extra for it)
Power running boards
Giant chrome plate on tailgate
BTW...from what I have read here, the 2017 F350 Platinum had the lighted sills. They were discontinued for the 2018 F350 except for the Limited. Also, I have read that the wiring is in the sill for most trucks except for the XL and XLT. They can be ordered and added as a modification but they say PLATINUM. The information is here on the forums.
the king ranch is available with the butt vibrator. It’s part of the ultimate package.
That is a poor characterization of the active motion seats. They have air bladders that move your body around some. For me and my wife, they help us stay comfortable on trips and we feel much better on arrival.
The KR seats feel a lot different than the platinum seats. For us, they felt much better, with no center stripe or seams on the top outsides of the seats. For such a big purchase, I strongly recommend you sit in both before deciding.
I hated the King Ranch Logo under my elbow on the center console. Maybe you would get used to, But it rubbed my arm.
Other than that, I think it boils down to colors. Do you prefer the King Ranch or the Platinum interior Colors. My 17 Platinum has the Brunello interior and it really shows dust.
And I'm sure the Black would show dust even worse For me a tan or carmel color would hide the dust I seem to fill my truck with.
If you want the camper certification or 18in wheels - go KR as not available in Platinum. Other than that, when I bought my 17 F350 Platinum, all the options I wanted (just about fully optioned) were available in both. For me, the color was the deciding factor - I wanted Silver. The leather is a bit more plush in the Platinum IMO.
I agree about the King Ranch logo on the console in 17 for sure. I don't like the way it hits my arm, but it could be different on the current trucks.
Like the others have said, depending on the options and colors you want, one of the two might let you get what you want.
If you want Oxford white you can do it on a King Ranch, if want massaging seats but no sunroof (at least in 17) that was only possible on a platinum.
Play with the configurator on Ford's website and study the order guide to see which options you want so you can see which trim suits you best.
