Although a radiator cooler is good to have they're not necessary to keep the transmission cool. I have a late 99 that didn't come with a water to oil cooler, I installed a 6.0 cooler about 9 or ten years ago and have towed heavy since and my trans temp stays around 165. And that's whether I'm in city traffic or pulling grades on the highway. Jmho

While not always needed they always help, especially when air flow is low like fighting traffic. The trans cooler is down low so it's unlikely to engage the fan clutch, if the radiator isn't hot enough to engage the clutch the trans cooler will get very little love at low speed.

Just throwing it out there but my Aftermarket 6.0 cooler from ebay for 110.00std has been working the same way an oem 6.0 would.
