Dealership changed the filters for the first time today on my truck. A couple miles down the road the smell of diesel was very strong so I pulled over and looked underneath the truck. There was diesel dripping along the bell housing, driver side frame, and driver side suspension. I called the dealership and they insisted that it was normal to get diesel everywhere while doing the filter change.
I would expect a little bit spilled but is it actually normal in your opinions to have diesel dripping from the undercarriage? This is the first time I have used this dealership and I’m not certain I trust that they are very competent. I had to go back to have them top off the DEF which is supposed to be done at oil changes as part of the Ford care plan, and they also left greasy handprints all over the inside and outside of the drivers door as well as greasy foot prints on both tow hooks and the bumper.

Those things right there would make me drop them anyway.

Sloppy job. But won't really hurt anything.
I was kind of thinking the same thing but was curious if the location of the filters or the angles would result in diesel all over like this no matter how careful they were.
I changed my fuel filters with VERY minimal diesel spatter. And I'm talking drops. No excuse for what you got. Sloppy work was done on your VERY expensive truck. If you are close to another dealer I would search them out or just do it yourself.
When I had my oil changed at the dealer I put a fitted sheet over the seat and asked that clean rubber gloves be used. The service dude looked at me and smiled. That's how we run our shop he says. I too would go somewhere else.
Thanks for the replies. I’m going to go talk to the service manager tomorrow. I just wanted to make sure it wasn’t like my wife’s old Honda where there was no way of changing the oil filter without getting at least a quarter of a quart of oil all over the sub frame.
they also told me the truck would be ready by one so I could pick it up on my lunch break. Got there at 1:30 and they hadn’t touched it yet. Definitely not impressed! Just moved to the area and they are 5 minutes from work so they are a lot more convenient than the other place that is 20 minutes past my house, but I’m going to have to give the other place a try.
At the dealer where i bought from, I just had my 1st oil change at 7:15 am and it was done by 8:00 am. They called my name as i was
sitting in and enjoying a Lincoln mkz in the showroom! They asked if i wanted a free wash and the inside/outside of my truck
was super clean. You went to a careless dealership...
Nope, not normal.
I have changed many fuel filters on the 6.7L.
I have never had any fuel spilled from the filter in the engine compartment.
Horrible dealership.
This is exactly why I do my own maintenance!!! My 60K + truck is not a jungle gym for grease monkeys to be crawling on. I would have lost my mind if I knew they were stepping on my tow hooks and bumpers!!!!!
By the amount of fuel spilled it appears to me that the tech changed the secondary filter first, unless he just literally spilled all the fuel from the filter by tipping it while removing it. My dealer has never done that, just a few drops out of the secondary filter and when they change it they put a shop rag or two underneath the fittings as they release them.
