What's the best way to get the 9" differential back into the axle, while its in the truck?
I have the rear of the truck on jackstands, and have enough room to sort of sit cross-legged under it. I'm not feeling super-confident that I can muscle this thing into place without jacking up the gasket/sealant.
Anybody have any tips/tricks for making this a little easier? I have floor jacks, etc.
Or...does everybody just eat their Wheaties that morning?
Combo of floor jack and blocking to get it to the proper level, lined up and on to the studs in slow motion so you don't trap a finger or disturb the gasket.
The iron man lift and stab method works too, if you can do it and hit the studs on the first try. But slow and deliberate might be the better way.
I ended up using a transmission jack from the rear of the vehicle, so that the plate stuck out a couple of inches farther forward than the axle housing.
Ate my Wheaties, lifted the pumpkin onto the plate, and from there, I was able to maneuver it until it landed.
