TV Cable Problems
I just had my transmission rebuilt and threw it in had the TV Cable on, but didn't realize it had an adjustment retainer. So i left it as it was and took it on a drive. Long story short, i know (now at least) no surprise, it would shift out of first. Researched got it hooked up properly and still no shift. Ive cleaned the governor, checked the TV rod to make sure it was working properly, pretty much everything on the simple list. So I would like to know my options, is it redeemable? I drove it 10 miles most of it wasnt under heavy throttle, and the transmission pressure does increase but it just won't shift. I'm looking into buying a salvage tranny and moving my valve body over, as well as the governor. But if I can save this one I will. What are your opinions? Sorry for reviving a dead thread :P

It's in a 1990 f150, the frame was bad on it so I frame swapped it to a 95 frame and had the tranny rebuilt while I was doing so. The guy who rebuilt it wasn't the most trust worthy, it took 3 months for him to finish the rebuild (only reverse was out). I moved everything from the 90 frame over, engine -cab -bed - front clip, everything. All forward gears worked before the rebuild but reverse was out.

Oh and he told me my reverse drum blew up, so he said he bought a salvaged tranny and moved all the good stuff from mine over. Oh and if it makes it any more sketchy it was only $200 for the rebuild. But it was a family friend so I figured I'd trust him. Plus 200 was an amazing deal to me a 16 year old with a minimum wage job at the time.

Given that rebuild story it is likely something inside the trans has not been assembled correctly, if taking it back to the same mechanic isn't something you want to do a used trans is your best bet. I'd suggest installing the used trans just as it is too, if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Thanks for the advice, I just wasn't sure if there was something I was missing. Unfortunate but I took the risk now I'm regretting the outcome. But luckily there is a salvage about an hour out that sells each of their trannys for 125. 85 after returning a core. With a 3 month warranty

Just an FYI, improper adjustment of the TV cable will kill a trans faster than you can say "Oh crap".

Okay, so bought a new transmission from a salvage, and just like that I'm out of first gear. However, 1 to 2 is very smooth, but when it trys to shift to third it gets there but then the tach freaks out acting as if it's down shifting and up shifting at the same time. Any suggestions? I'm gonna try seafoam and cleaning the governor. What's your opinion?

The flexplate bolts to the engine crankshaft and has a ring gear around it for the starter. If you have the wrong flexplate between the engine and trans the TC will be pushed back too far grinding the shout on the trans pump and sending metal shavings through the trans... which will clog up the valve body and quickly make the trans inoperable. The AOD requires a specific flexplate, a C6/E4OD flexplate cannot be used.
