TV Cable Problems

So I took it out yesterday and did the 1-d-1 manual shift, and when I shifted from first to D the second time (which should shift it into third) the revs started bouncing and when I lifted my foot it acted like it was in nuetral. I have no idea what this means, if it's acting like it's in nuetral then the clutch is engaging correct?
