I like the idea of a 300. 6 cyl with dual exhaust. But most people don't think they sound good with glass packs.
I have run an aluminum 4 Bbl. Intake and a creeper four speed before, it was a great combination.
I have duals on my 80 f-100 both pipes run down the pass side and split behind the rear axle to there own sides.
1200 lbs
My f-100 has an OEM Ford Reman long block and is a great running driving combination.
I frequently haul and frequently run empty.
Good mileage and good power.

That is the goal. I'm a long way from that though. It needs a lot of work
Do you guys think the 300 is powerful enough to get some quick speed
Frankly, no.
If you want fast, ditch the six. the 302 is the basis for some pretty powerful engines and you would be much happier with this powerplant.
The limiting factor on the 300 is the head and there is no support either OEM or aftermarket that will overcome this. Well, maybe turbocharging, but you will quickly get into the cubic dollars range here.
Not hating on the 300 six, it is a fine engine, but leave it to do what it does best.
Yep I agree, you can spend some big money and make a I6 a stout little engine. but in the end a six is best left for what it is which is a dependable daily engine. You want performance your better off going up to an 302 or even a 351w.
Power Train Products sell 302 long blocks for an 80 - 85 F series truck in the $1,600 price range last time I checked. But you would still need intake, carb, oil pan, valve covers, timing cover, fuel pump, dist, water pump, accessory brackets, mounts, etc.
If you do not want the hassles of the split EFI Exhaust manifolds you can used the 300HD exhaust manifold it much much better flowing than the factory truck piece.
A little over half way way down the page.. FORD EXHAUST MANIFOLDS
That would keep the heat feature of the carb also.

It's not that hard to heat the intake manifold if you go with EFI manifolds as I have done it.
On ebay there is I plate with hose fittings you bolt on and run heater hoes to it.
I hope this weekend to do the choke hot air tube and will post how I did it.
