I went to try to find a K&N filter for my 6.0L PSD. Can't seem to find one.
Has anyone changed their air filter? Is there some trick to getting that thing out and back in again? I am mechanically inclined and fairly experienced DIY. This one is difficult unless I am missing something.
1. Is there a tip on how to replace the air filter?
2. Is there a K&N available for the 2003 F250SD 6.0 PSD?
I think it's safe to say to stay away from K&N filters for your psd. Although they flow a great deal of air , they also let a good amount of contaminants through. i've been doing a lot of searching lately and is seems the general consensus is to go with the AFE proguard 7 or the Tymar system. I think that I will be ordering a AFE intake system with the proguard 7 filter in the very near future. Just my .02, I'm no expert with engines, but after racing and riding motorcycles for 20 years I like to research alot before spending money on expensive aftermarket add-ons.
Cheers,
Bryce
I put a AIRAID intake system that has a K&N style air cleaner in my 6.0 about 15.000 miles ago it works great. AIRAID claims 21.2 hp gain and felt like it. It list for around $250. Should say someone told me a pre oiled filter is not good for a turbo diesel that it will suck the oil off and hurt the M.A.S. not sure myself so far so good.

I to insalled a AIRAID intake system on mine. As DWolf said, someone said it would suck the oil off the filter, yeah, it probably would if you "OVER" lubricated the filter. Again, no problems here.
Did you ever find out the trick to taking the filter assembly apart? i'm just about to change mine. i finally got the Wix part number and it's on order.
Just installed the Proguard 7 in my 2003 Excursion, 6.0L PSD; a tight fit. I dread taking it out & checking its condition; but, my son (17 yo) & I drove it down the street & definitely heard the difference going from 750 to 1500 rpm; it had a deeper sound on acceleration. $300 from Craig at DPPI in Nashville, TN. Next improvement will be the DPPI cat/back exhaust.

Vino - do u have any before and after measurements --- like dyno numbers or drag stirp comparisisons ????
My bud and I have close engines escept his had the K&N with the new maf and mine had a turbo back....
His intercooler hose was splitting and he STILL did 12 more hp than me !!!
Can't imagine what it would have done without that hose split !!!!
Ive seen alot of trucks come in weather F-150s, Super Dutys, whatever, with K&N's etc. Ill about guarrantee that if you put a scan tool on it and monitor baro its out of spec. How much oil you use on the filter doesnt matter, its still going to suck some oil from it and contaminate the maf. Btw, on the air filters, I take that rubber neck out thats on the turbo side of the maf, then unhook the maf and filter minder connector, undo the clips that hold it on the filter. Pop the other clips loose, pop the filter up and it should come right out. But, this is just my $0.02 anyway, not tryin to step on any toes with the filter comment.
SBV I recently posted a little step by step how to on the R2 of the stock air filter question you posted. Just check out my HISTORY of posts. Like I said it's a pretty recent one.
