Exactly! So many people obsess about brands of oil and filters but how often do you read about oil or filter choice causing premature wear or any issue at all? Buy a quality brand and forget it. Most importantly, don't worry about what anyone else is running. LOL
An engineer I used to work with had the crank seal go out on his Chevy pick up while under warranty. Took it to the dealer and they said it was the Castrol oil that he used that caused it and denied warranty. When he asked them to put that in writing so that he could go after Castrol they back tracked and covered it. A customer should not have to go through that to get warranty. Use OEM and then there is no debate or shell game to play.
Mike, I'm afraid that I can't be scared off by anecdotal stories. They are great tools to make people overspend on OE branded products but in the end, there are two angles. One is that the odds of an oil or filter choice related issue are next to nothing. Second is that the Magnuson-Moss Act completely protects you from such BS in the EXTREMELY rare instance that it happens to you. Does Motorcraft put out a quality product? Sure... and in the cases of their oil filters, a good product at a very fair price. Are their products better? Absolutely not and I won't be scared into using them by the chance of a lightning strike rare instance of a warranty issue that calls their use into question. But, that's just me. Everyone has the free will to make that decision for themselves...

Not a scare story Rodney, fact, I was there. And I agree with you that other products can be just as good. However, as long as I can get OEM at a competitive price why would I even tempt fate fo no reason at all. The am oil filter fails of the 6.0 stand as a great example. To beat copyrights the am's added adapters and different shaped caps and there were many documented failures with these parts and some being name brand.
I guess you go with your experiences. Mine has been to run what you want and don't worry about it. I've never seen one story on this 6.7 forum about Ford denying a warranty claim for using an aftermarket filter... and folks love to find forums when stuff goes bad. (Maybe they have and I missed it but it certainly is about as common as hens teeth as I'm on here daily.) Can it happen? Sure. Are the odds very low? Yup. Will the MM act protect you if it does? Indeed. Did your story even require that? Nope. Again, I'm not trying to change anyone's mind. I'm just stating what I do and my reasoning behind it...
From what I read, Purolator was bought a couple years back and the quality control issues they had for a while are now gone. Personally, I've never cut a filter open or obsessed too much about it. BITOG takes obsession to an entirely new level...LOL
I've always liked Purolator filters but have used Mobil, K&N and Bosch. I use the Motorcraft filter as I take it to the dealer for the change. Rodney, you are always full of information. Thanks. Bob is the oil guy guys are crazy obsessive, great point.

There is and will always be obsession of people over what oil and filter that they will use. There's nothing wrong about using Motorcraft's filter which is cheap on Amazon and free ship with Prime. There's also nothing wrong with using a different filter of your choice or a name brand one that's on sale. It was probably made by the same company of the filter that you were going to use anyway. I use Filtermags on my oil filter but SHHH! Don't tell anyone. Last time I did, people went a little crazy.
