In my case it turned out to be the pip, and I just went ahead and replaced the whole distributor. If when you are trying to re-start you never hear the fuel pumps run for a couple seconds, then it's a good idea to check the ecm and see if any capacitors are leaking. Keep us posted. Plenty of smarter people than me to help.
I had very similar symptoms a couple months ago. It went on for about a month and then one morning it wouldn't start at all, no matter what I tried or how long I waited. Ended up being the PIP in the distributor.
One is cast iron and the other is steel. There are several ways to possibly determine which one you have, but I read, the 94 it could be either. I read that most people just use the gear off the old distributor to be sure. The changing of distributor gears is interchangeable. Sandy
If you have trouble doing it, I can't see where it would hurt anything at all. But I am not knowledgeable enough about that area to say yes, but I would do it. Sandy
Plan is to pull the distributor.
Pull the gear. Change the pip.
Or replace the whole thing if the gear is really stuck & if a machine shop is out of price range.
I'll PB that gear a few minutes before pulling it off.

Hope it works out. I don't know your skill level. The distributor needs to go back in a certain way. Plenty of You Tube stuff on our trucks. Sandy
Thank you Sandy. My skills are moderate. Have taken old engines & trannies apart to see how they work. Lots of wrenching while installing pumos, alternators, & such. My skills lack in the timing dept. Know how to get it out, but must take special consideration to mark EVERYTHING. As to not screw up the timing.
Have watched buddies install them 180° off. More than once. Oops.
Just so long as the oil pump drive shaft doesn't come out with it. And the PIP switchs goes OK. I hope to be driving it again this weekend.
Embarrassing to have my truck sidelined. Been moving a ton of rock. A few hundred lbs @ a time in my GF's minivan! :P
