CCD Operation

Hi all - first, I once owned 2 expeditions - ‘97 and ‘04 then I crossed over to the “dark side” in 2011 by getting into ‘11 Yukon Denali and then a ‘15 Yukon Denali. I main made the switch because the Expedition had grown stale with me.

Well, I’m happy to say I am the proud owner of the 2018 Expedition Limited w/302A package. Man, I do love this vehicle. However, I cannot find any information on how to change the three setting - Comfort, Normal, and Sport. Can anyone help?

The drive mode button changes the settings. Eco mode puts it in eco, sport mode puts it in sport and i believe all the other modes keeps it in normal. I do not have ccd on mines but i do wish i did. The rides between the ccd and base are vastly different outside of smooth rds.

That’s what I thought too but what you describe is drive mode and is standard. CCD is an option and does have separate controls

Though selectable drive modes is std, Ford actually programmed the suspension to coincide with the drive modes. theres no separate option for suspension, steering, and transmission unfortunately. Is was like this for the previous gen as well. I have test drove a plat before my purchase and there is a noticable different feel in the suspension btw the modes. Try it when you get a chance.

Fords description for their CCD specifically states “...choose from three settings - Comfort, Normal or Sport”. I cannot find anything that tells me how to select one of these three settings which is why I have posted the question and I still don’t think I’ve received the answer.

For the 2015, Simply go to Settings / Driver Select Suspension / then select Sport Normal or Comfort.

Have you tried switching your drive modes yet? As i mentioned, the suspension settings are programmed into the modes, so they are selectable as you quoted, just not separately from the drive modes. Also, when i tested an 18 platinum model, i selected the modes and noticed the suspension changes. The prev gen and new gen are very different in regards to changing the settings. The link above can help, its another forum with the same question...and same answers lol. Oh i my mistake in the earlier post, eco mode puts the suspension in comfort mode.

Maybe take the vehicle to dealer to get the correct answer.

The 2018 expedition brochure clearly states:

"Choose from three settings – Comfort, Normal or Sport – for the performance feel you prefer."

To me, this does infer that there is a specific setting and not tied to drive modes.

The manual isnt good at explaining for either the expy or navi. Have you tried it yet? I think it was a cost saving attempt to prgram it that way as it makes it easier to implement it for both the expy and nav. I bring up the nav bexause i also tested one and it was the same way, you select the modes to choose the suspension settings.

Anyone know if the vehicle retains whatever setting was last selected, or will id default to the "normal" setting?

Anyone ever figure this out? I too have a 2018 Ltd 302A...well my wife does.

Previously she had a 15 navigator which you changed on the dash screen between comfort normal and sport. There was a great change in all three, she never used it but I did and liked having control.

I assume it’s built in the drive modes but I can’t feel as much of a difference if any.

Its in the drive modes, like you said. The difference wont be felt on smooth roads. Those with it on the othet forums marked it as a big difference. I've felt the difference, but ive only tested it on the hwy its not easy to feel but theres a difference. Honestly, normal mode is probably the best.

CCD makes a difference in all road conditions. Many times when driving on fast twisty roads or turnpikes I'll select Sport mode to tighten the suspension and reduce wallowing. That makes the Expedition handle much smaller/lighter than it is.

I drove an hour long highway trip this evening and played with the modes. I agree normal is probably the best. Is eco comfort?

Normal is better than the Lincoln normal, but if eco is comfort it’s not as good as the Lincoln. The Lincoln comfort mode teleported you to 1968 and was like a big contenental floating along. Wallowing down the road but wow it was smooth. But I felt like you couldn’t take a turn over 30 mph or it would roll right over.

Overall these things ride incredible well.... especially compared to my Super Duty... which isn’t awful but nothing like these.
