RockAuto seems to have gone to a purely bot-based Customer Service setup. No more humans. No escalation. I already found out that they know almost nothing about the parts they sell, but now they seem to have eliminated human responses.
They sold me the wrong starter (see thread https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...-50-bucks.html), and their only human response so far is to tell me to use the bots. The bot declined to pay shipping return costs. So far, they are ignoring my email messages pointing out that the incorrect starter was and still is listed on their site for my truck. It's not my fault, and it's abusive to make me pay return shipping.
Oh, another point... O'Reilly's Auto Parts offered to match RockAuto's price. Then they beat it by $25. So keep your eyes open on prices. RockAuto is no longer always the best deal.
.
O'Reilly's is great. If you live near one, they have distribution centers that you can go and pick stuff up at. Lubbock had a big one by the airport, Little Rock has one almost in the middle of town. Any store in their region could next-day stuff from the center, but if you were willing to drive half an hour or so you could get almost anything that day from them. I think I paid in-store, drove to the center and picked up that day, no hassles.
RockAuto has become a POS in recent years. There is plenty of your same complaints on google and BBB. There is even a YouTube video of a guy in your same situation who calls corporate and gets told they don't have representatives and he has to handle it online.
I've never liked Rock Auto. Their OE/replacement part list prices seem good until you realize that their shipping is retarded expensive. As was mentioned, local parts houses like O'Reilly's will price match and can get parts the same day with no shipping or return hassles.
There are also plenty of places like Summit that you can find free shipping deals if you're looking for aftermarket/upgrade parts like shocks that might not be carried by local places.
Never had a problem with rock auto. Sent me the wrong part once. The return function worked just fine for me. You do have to play a bit with the shipping to keep the cost of it down, and stay away from the economy grade parts. But you should be doing that anyway from anywhere.
The people I know that hate rock auto are the ones buying non OEM brand once had a mechanic tell me ohh get your ball joints from rock auto 8 bucks a piece. I will say if you have a “disability” magically appear preventing you from working with the bots you can usually get a quick human response. My eyes broke once plus other magical problems and “would hate to have my disability stop me from getting my warranty”.....my new ford steering gear was shipped out the next day. After days of no help thankfully the disiablilty instantly went away once I got the shipping information.
Last time I went to orileys I had to tell the manager thanks for the help but I can’t put that part on my truck lol

Good to hear it works for you. This is the third time in a year that RockAuto sent us the wrong parts, and my first experience with their new bot-only customer service. The worst was a flywheel for our 6.9 IDI with ZF5 conversion you see in my sig ... it was the wrong part (looked like a 460 flywheel/clutch) in the right box and it slowed down the tranny conversion job by a week. At least at O'Reilly's I can compare it visually before buying. I'll keep using RA for little stuff like door striker plates etc. But from now on it'll be O'Reilly's for the big stuff, and use the RA price for bargaining.
You’re The second most unlucky people I know (the other being my mother in law). I’ve literally ordered maybe 200 times from Rock Auto over the past 5 years for a variety of different vehicles and only had one bad order.

My MIL is unlucky too. I stole her daughter. But seriously, I only started ordering late 2017. So all my experiences are recent. This sorta dovetails with others saying RockAuto has gone downhill.
For me, Amazon is the worst online company. Ordered an nVidia Shield Pro (not from a third party) and they sent me a used opened box system, scratched to hell. Not two months later I ordered leather cleaner and received an empty unsealed bubble mailer. About two weeks later ordered a new (again, right from Amazon) wireless Microsoft keyboard with separate number pad. They sent me a keyboard, unboxed, with a broken battery door and no number keypad.
Worst of all, when I left product reviews of each, they emailed me saying they would not be posted due to not following posting rules. Funny, since my posts had no bad language and only stated “Amazon shipped me a used product advertised as new”.

I stopped giving them any business.
Wise move.
Bezos made bazumpty billion dollars last year. But Amazon never turns a profit. It just keeps expanding...and putting local stores out of business. They take your money, then spend it to defeat the 2A and conservative pols. Just like Costco sells chinese gun safes but donates to anti-2A causes and only allows carry in certain red states like TX.
Spend locally when you can, avoid the big globalist companies.
I just ordered sway bar end links from them. I ordered the same brand and they're consecutive part numbers yet one is completely different from the other. Return bot said I have to pay shipping. No you.

For me, Amazon is the best. Never had an issue with them. Always get new, unopened items. And customer service is awesome. I do pay for a prime membership though. Maybe they treat me nice because of that haha
I’ve been a prime member for 5 years. Their customer service never gave me a problem but when you ship obvious used $300 items in place of new, and then do not allow a truthful review to be posted, you are not a good company and have suspect business morals.
