Correct, they are bulbs, but they are LED bulbs, and I believe they are as bright or possibly brighter than "regular LED's". FWIW, I think it looks good and is a easy, inexpensive (relative to "real LED's) cost.
I just got the truck yesterday - but from what I have read - I can't just toss the LEDs into the housing that I have for the XLT. Correct me if I am wrong?
Light output is great with the Beamtechs however I found the quality to be too scattered and bright for other motorists. Upgraded to the OEM LED and am 100% satisfied. The thread by jmeo and a few hours is all you need to install. Headlight assemblies and other parts had the total cost at about $1800. I have not matched the tail lights to the headlights but have upgraded to LED replacement bulbs.

Reason: Hope this helps

You certainly can. Dozens here have done it with Beamtech and other brands and are happy with the result. Some have used Headlight Revolution with good result also. I used their bulbs for my reverse lights but thought their customer service was less than stellar.

You are correct and sad thing is most people do not care and just go the illegal cheap route.
I run the factory LED's and they are legal. Maybe being legal is stupid? Who knows? Could get pulled over by a LEO who does not like your attitude and you cannot drive on a public road just like if you were running non DOT tires. Mr. Tow Truck will take you home lol.
Personally, You said SOB not me and I do not like being blinded by "those type" of people see a lot of it at night going to the ranch and back in NM. Drive a lot at night and there are a lot of oil field types who run all kinds of stupid lights on the highway and it gets old.

I can see this to a certain extent from young military guys in my area. Fortunately it's not often.
As far as illegal, I researched the question section on Amazon. There are too many answers for any to be definitive. Some say DOT "approved". Some say DOT "certified". Yet another says that any bulb above 3,000 lumens can't be approved for on road use. Personally, I am not going to find and pore over DOT specs to find out. If you have done this, I'd be open to seeing what they say.
Bottom line for me: they work and they work well. As stated many times before, I've been flashed a total of 2 times since 12/17. Maybe it's the bulbs, maybe it's because someone sees 4 headlights coming at them. There really is no way to tell.
This is what the law is in South Carolina, " it is unlawful to sell or use any device or equipment which tends to change design or performance of any head lamps or any other lamps or reflectors required by law to be attached to motor vehicles."

There is a lot of ambiguity in that law. You aren't changing the reflectors, and the bulbs are designed to fit there.

I guess I’ll have to pass through SC during daylights hours on my annual Florida vacation trip.
