I recently bought new American Racing rims for my Mazda. Does anyone know how wide of a tire I can put on these rims? They are 15"x7". I have 225's on there now but they look a little narrow in the back. Any ideas of how wide I can go without causing any trouble?
I have yet to see a tire manufacturer that will recommend a tire wider than 10.50 for a seven inch rim.
~however~ if you take a few minutes and look around various web sites "user's photo galleries" you will quickly find references to mounting 12.50's on the same seven inch rim.

if I was going to use the truck on pavement most of the time I'd stick with the 10.50 "maximum".
I recently tried a set of 31X11.50X15's on seven inch factory rims and I found that findin the the air pressure balance between having the tire not buldge up in the middle and having them so soft the truck handled like a water bed too elusive to be worth the trouble.
. . remember, these rangers are light in the stern anyway. It is not too hard to get so much width you loose ground pressure to the point you find your truck getting stuck on wet grass - flat - wet grass.

Thanks for the info. 10.5's sound like a good idea.
I do a lot of pavement driving but I always find time for offroading on the weekends. The tires I have now offer an amazing ride and traction in never an issue.... even in first gear on a hill. I was just concerned about the look. But I will not sacrifice performance and handling for looks.
