If I recall the 80457 was the Ford version of the 600. It was listed for everything from 302 to 390. So jetting could have covered a wider range in numbers. I know a 390 will pull more vacuum with it than a 302 would, so jetting would be different.
If it comes up, go all the way down to 80457. It DOES show 69 mains BUT 80457-1 through 8 shows 64 as main jets. Interistin. SO the reason I asked what the date is on the carb. Maybe a re-jeting for smog carbs? No idea.
Secondary plates are all the same.
My book is Holley's 1999 Performance Catalog, can't find my old 80's book.
My book only shows the original 80457 plus the -1 and -2 , doesn't show anything newer.
Looking at the newer 80457 shows they upsized to a 66 jet at some time.
Documents show they used 64 jets from -1 to -7, not sure what the latest version is.
Hadn't heard of the 80457 before but after some searching it appears to be an electric chock version of the old 1850 600cfm carbs I messed with years ago.
They would run on anything right out of the box but run better with the prober jetting for the size engine it was on.
Yeah, wish that link would work by clicking on it.
if you copy and paste it, it goes right to the site page. Holley sure made a lot of different carbs.
AND who knows what has been done to them over the years.
I have a 083310-1 780 vac seconday setting top my 428. I myself have changed a few things. Replaced the secondary metering plate for jet block. 50 cc pump with a brown cam. I believe a 35 squirter, I think, also with the hollow screw to flow more fuel. Quick change secondary spring kit. I love that.
A friend of mine makes the jet blocks for the Holley where you can remove the jets from the top of the block. Pretty cool since you don't need to pull the carb apart. ALSO a pretty good price for them.
:-(
I refitted an 1850 600 with dual feed bowls from a 750, then reworked the top by removing the choke assembly and casting then smoothed it all out with a die grinder.. Also had to make a reversed air cleaner bottom for my 3x2 setup to fit both an 89 Ranger and the 77 Comet it's in now to clear the cowling's on both vehicles.
Haaa, I cut off the choke on one of mine like that. Ran great after ya got it started but still had to spray it to get it fired up. Sometimes pumping the crap out of it and closing the blades - making it think it had a choke. . You sure can move a lot of air with out the choke in the way.
Thinking someday you'll use it.
Yeah, I look around and see 'sruff' I've had for years and ask myself WHY. Little by little, I have been weeding. I figure that if I do it slowly, it won't hurt.
Thanks for the advise guys. Got it set back to stock thanks to you guys and the local performance parts store . Installed it tonight and hope to fire it off tomorrow .
