I just got my truck out the shop about a month ago. Had arp head studs and gaskets done, new oil cooler, and new glow plugs. Egr is already deleted and welded on both sides. Truck has been running great since I’ve had it except for this past week. Oil temperature was running 20-30 degrees cooler than the coolant temperature and would rise up and down very quickly and would never be at normal. Well today was he first time it got up to normal and actually ran hot enough to have the wrench light turn on. Asked the mechanic who did my truck what he thought and said it could be the sensor. I just thought I would ask on a forum for any other opinions. Oil cooler was oem and had a 3 year warranty so what should I do
If the cooling system was not properly flushed your new cooler may have turned into a filter and is now plugged again. You may be able to back flush it, there are videos on YouTube on how. I doubt that the sensor is the problem although it is possible, check the ECT and EOT after the truck sits overnight or longer, if they read the same you can swap the 2 sensors and see if the problem follows the sensor or stays with the oil temp. I really suspect though that you need another oil cooler.

today I bought a new sensor for the EOT that is the sensor by the oil filter. I went on a 5 minute drive and my EOT got up to 215 and ECT was 196 with a 19 degree difference still. Had the cruise set on 65. I’m gonna start it up tomorrow morning and see what it reads and go on a drive. The first 2 weeks the temperatures were great but I haven’t even had it for a month and this third week was also great until yesterday is when the wrench light came on and of course threw the oil/coolant temperature contribution. What I’m thinking is how can the oil cooler be clogged after 3 weeks of getting it back. A coolant back flush will clean the cooler out?
Side question:
After having the EGR replaced three times (cooler twice) on a 6.0L, I was told to step on the pedal once a month to blow out carbon build-up. That worked, and I never had another EGR problem.
Is that the same with the 6.7L? I don't ever see any black smoke with the 6.7. The 6.7L has the particulate filter and DEF.. Does that make a difference and if it does, good or bad..
