Hey fellas, I bought another 7.3L powerstroke, 97 F250 CCSB a few months back. I'm thinking of swapping in a dana 60 sometime in the near future and just wanted to ask you guys what all components I need to grab? My buddy has a 96 F350 that will be the donor truck for this swap. Thanks!!
If you have a complete f350, then I would grab everything in the front end. I had a complete f350 and that's what I did. The parts to grab off the top of my head would be:
-Dana 60 axle (obviously)
-F350 front drive shaft
-F350 front yoke off transfer case
-F350 steering pitman arm (I'm still running the F250 but the F350 is shaped a little different and some say gives a little better turning radius, I would change mine but I cant get it off lol)
-F350 steering components (drag links and tie rods)
-F350 trac bar bracket/mount
-F350 traction bar
-F350 front leaf springs (some say they ride better than f250 front springs but I didn't notice much of a difference)
-F350 rear 4inch blocks (if you want to but not necessary)
Thanks fellas for the advise! First time swapping any major components on a PSD. I mostly hang out over in the 73-79 section since that's my real passion. I have done a couple of total resto jobs on a few trucks (79's) so I'm not worried about doing the work!
I'm sure I'll have some more questions for ya'll once I get started. Please let me know if you have any tricks/tips as well
Thanks
FWIW--I'm thinking of a 3 inch lift, gonna run 33's or 35's on factory Alcoa wheels. I have a few buddies that have went with the SD springs and love the ride quality. I will investigate that as well. Trying to achieve the best ride while not dropping a boat load of cash haha! Is that even possible?!
The SD springs are usually done in conjunction with a reverse shackle kit. Sky off road and PMF are the two most common. I have the SKY kit in garage ready for an install but life has prevented installation.
I think you will enjoy this platform. It is pretty easy to work on and with a few DIY add ons they are really dependable and pull well
Agreed with Ben. I installed my PMF kit and haven't looked back. Sky does a great job as well.
Let me know if you have any questions about the installation process. It's very straightforward and simple. I went with X code SD springs for the extra bump in height, and there was still a noticable improvement in how it rode.
