2003 7.3 runs HOT when towing

When I tow my rig runs HOT I mean like 230-240 hot. I’ve flushed coolant, put Rotella ELC in it with a new water pump, hoses, motorcraft thermostat and fan clutch. The only thing that I found that works to keep it cool is I pulled the hood off and than it’s golden. I can pull however fast I want and it doesn’t get over 210. Any ideas here?? Only thing I haven’t done is pull the rad and get it cooked.

Do the radiator.... check the fan blades.. they can flatten out.. static or spinning..
what about the seals around the radiator... and the fan shroud ?

belt slippage? tenchener ?

how was the last anti-freeze change... could be Rust in the cylinder heads... restricting flow .

The deals around the Rad are good, belt, and tentioner have been replaced. The coolant didn’t look too bad last change, but idk how often it was done b4 I had it. It has 268,000 on it now, I’ve had it for 30,000 miles. I’ll take a look at the blades I guess I never thought they would get flimsy n flatten out. I was thinking about a all Aluminium rad swap, but not sure if that’s $ well spent or not.

When it gets hot are you hearing the radiator fan spool up? It sounds like a big vacuum cleaner and it is too loud to miss.
