What's "hoarding in the engine bay"?

Drape tarp over the front of the truck and down to the ground to hold the heat from the heater in. I used cat tarp, ( heavy canvas and fire retardant tarp used to tarp in dozers, loaders, open cab side booms etc.) It's expensive but it's the cats meow and free to me working in the patch. Anything that would hold the heat would work though. Took about 3 hours to get it got enough but it got me home from Fort Mcmurray.

A friend of mine was working in the patch in ND and he'd have to leave his Ford diesel idling day and night except for the times when he could leave it in a warm shop.

Thanks for the replies. So I tried firing the engine over, with no luck. I sprayed seafoam deep clean down the hole, but I didnt let it sit long enough, which is why I think this didnt work. I got pissed off and walked from it, and went to Edmonton for the night lol.
I have it parked way behind my house beside a bunch of grain silos, I need to get the tractor to pull it up to the house and put power on the batterys.
So your saying it's not carbon build up, that it's a glow plug that swells? Do all glow plugs eventually swell at the tip? Or is that why we need to use recommended flow plugs for these 6.9s?

I dont rhimk I'm gonna try gasoline as a starting aid, I'm just getting into the diesel world, and I think I'll either kill the engine or myself. Lol I'll let myself learn more on it before trying something I dont fully understand.
I do have ether, but ive heard using it is like crack cocaine for your truck, once its addicted it'll never start without it.
I will plug it in over night once I get the thing up to my house, and I'm thinking that will help with the starting.
Just doesnt make sense how it runs fine one day and the next day it doesnt fire up at all

No, they don't all swell, just certain brands. My last Motorcraft (Beru) plugs were working and in good shape when I changed them after 11 years and 80,000 miles. Some guys have had trouble with the tips swelling, others carbon buildup. Worst case the head has to come off.

autolite glow plugs are famous for swelling the tips, if they do not burn out on the first startup.

I had to buy starting fluid for my lawn mower recently. The can says it's good for gas and diesel engines but I don't think I would use it in my IDI. There are those that swear by it on our site though.

I don't swear by it....I swear at it sometimes!!! Like I say, I think either should be outlawed to keep folks like me from using it.

Yes Autolite GPs & a few other names are famous for that! But the cheap no-name Chinese from places like EBay are by far the worse. That's what happened to me & 4 out of 8 twisted off/broke in my '92

Finally! The ****ty Autolite glow plugs are out and replaced with the correct Motorcraft ZD1A plugs. It took a special pair of needle nose pliers to clamp onto the electrode, and a little slide hammer but it came out along with the other little ****s.

Thank you everyone for your helpful advice and time on the headache
