Replacing Manual Locking Hubs

Hi all--

Replacing my manual locking hubs. The screws are stuck in place so I'm going to drill them out. If there's a better way PLEASE let me know.

Moving along, I don't know which hubs I need to buy to replace them. I am not sure what my spline count is because I can't remove my lockers.

I am not sure what front end I have. I am buying my lockers from rockauto, and all of their lockers are between Dana 44 and Dana 60 (so I am assuming I have one of those).

On top of that, I am not sure if I have a 19, 30, or 35 spline count. Is there a way I can find out before I start dissecting my truck?

I have an '83 F250 with the 302. 4sp manual.

Thanks all--

Unless something has been swapped, you definitely have the dana 44 ttb. You probably have a semi-float rearend also (no large piece sticking out of the center of the wheel in back).

I drill those allen bolts out all the time. Just make sure to use a drill bit that just fits in the hub, though you are changing your hubs anyway. When it comes to a re-install, I have used regular flat screwdriver type screws with success. The are the round head type. I have to take them to the grinder and grind the OD of the head down a little bit so they fit inside the hub, but they work ok. You might not like the look but they hold the hub on fine.

I am sure you are going to write back in and say you can't get the guts of the hub out. Look around the OD of the hub tube, in all that muck and old grease there is a small wire ring that holds the assembly in place, You have to get a pick or a small allen wrench and dig that wire ring out, and then it will come out after you take the obvious snap ring off the axle.

Thanks Dave. Appreciate the help and the heads up. Blessings
