Does anyone know of a dependable, hopefully not Chinese made, mechanical fuel pump for 400? I've gone through 4 in a year. I may have to resort to an electric pump and a return type regulator. Not that those are American made
Unfortunately the overseas junk fuel pumps you buy at the parts stores can be hit or miss, and even the hits usually have a short life span. You may have better luck buying a NOS "made in usa" pump on ebay, I see them on there all time in the $15-25 range.
Flatbed, thank you. I bought it. I don't think it's a motorcraft, but add says "Made in USA"...and we know how trustworthy ebay sellers are. I'll keep looking for spares. Thanks again.
Skyhawc, yeah that's on the *****-It List. I did try one of those clickety clack Holley mighty mites. It wouldn't feed a lawn mower carburetor. If I go back to electric, it'll be a higher end pump and I'll use a return type regulator.
I hope it works out for you, I know ebay sellers can be full of it but it does say "Made In USA" on the side of the pump though it is difficult to see in the pic.
As for the manufacturer I am not certain, the ad did not state the maker of the pump, but at least it's not Chinese!
Facet fuel pumps are made in the USA. I’ve used one but it was in a priming capacity so cannot speak to daily use. I know many light aircraft use them however, so hopefully that speaks to some degree of reliability.
Its not exactly cheap, but if you want to end your fuel pump woes without going to an electric, try this. I haven't needed to go to one, but I know people that swear by them, best mechanical pump they've used. RobbMc Performance Products - Ford 351C 550HP Fuel Pump
FWIW my 400 went through several parts store pumps some years ago before the major problem was discovered: old "non alcohol spec" rubber fuel lines that were getting sucked shut and collapsing. Replaced all the rubber lines and much better.

I have problems with fuel pumps and have put FI speced fuel lines, and still had problems.
