So I have a 97 F250 HD 4WD. I have an option to swap the front end from an f350 (Dana 60) with all the springs, steering links, etc. Is this a worthwhile swap? My current setup is getting a bit loose and if it would be better to swap the other instead of trying to "refresh" the older independent system iw would do it. Any pros/cons?
The only draw back would be ride height if you like the lower look. You will gain probably at least and inch. I did mine probably 4 years ago. Definitely worth it, especially if you can get all the parts at once.
Would you guys say that for the Dans 60 with a 4.10 that matches my 10.25 rear, calipers, lockouts, springs, driveshaft, drag link, and center link for 900 is a good deal? Considering the expense and considerable effort to rebuild mine, I feel this is a good deal. Thanks for all the input! Anything else I would need?
It's not a smokin deal but seems decent. You need the yoke from the transfer case, if the 350 is a 96-97. The 96-97 F-250 and F-350 came with the borg Warner 4407 transfer case in only those two years in those two models. To make it even more fun, the 250 has a different yoke than the 350. To use the 350 drive shaft you need the 350 yoke. And that yoke is damn near impossible to find by itself. So if that 350 is a 96-97, get that yoke!
You also need the 350 Pittman arm on the steering box. You can buy that newif you can't get it off or get the whole steering box.
Otherwise you should be golden.
When I did my conversion I found a guy parting out a 91 f350. I got everything you mentioned plus correct ratio for $400. Unfortunately the 91 is a king pin so I couldn't use my brake hardware from the original 96 250 front end
