I've had my 2000 Excursion for about 2.5 years now. It's been a solid driver and hauler with minor repairs and upgrades.
I've noticed over the last 4 weeks, coming and going with our trailer, that the Engine Oil Temps have been higher than ever before. Whether idling, cruising, or under load, temps seem to be 5-10 degrees hotter than they historically were. This isn't a huge deal at the moment, but as we are planning bigger roadtrips with bigger mountains, it will become a problem.
Also noticed that the truck isn't quite building boost like it was. I used to quickly get to, and top out at, 18 PSI when I mashed the pedal. Pulling a trailer this past weekend I had a hard time getting out of single digits, and I only saw the display flash 18 PSI once before dropping back down, and it took a long time to get there.
My belabored question is: Do I have a turbo [or turbo solenoid] that is on it's way out, and causing these concerns, or is it likely more than one thing happening at once?

Sounds like boost leaks. Do some searches on here about boost leaks, boost leak detector, bellowed up pipes, CAC boots, wastegate, red line mod. Those key words will get you to threads that deal with this. If your EGTs are also going up, it most likely is a boost leak (or multiple leaks) since the engine is not getting all the air (lower boost) it will have higher EGTs, which in turn will raise your oil temp some as well. Do you notice any or more black smoke than usual if you stomp on the throttle?
Mcnance865 -- Thanks for the starting point. I'll get digging and see what I can learn. The last small hill I had to climb on my last trip home, I basically had the pedal floored and looked back and saw some black smoke. Nothing significant, and the Ex has never been a big smoker. I thought it was strange though that I had the pedal maxed out and not much boost (5 or 6 psi). I had thought that even with a leak, I'd be seeing higher numbers than that.
John -- Oil cooler has not been rebuilt by me. The truck was 16 years old when I got it. No noticeable leaks that I am seeing near it, however I have had a VERY slow oil leak somewhere on the top/back of the engine that I haven't been able to find the root of. In fact, I know that the oil cap was leaking some, so when I replaced that recently, it may have fixed my oil leak problem altogether (it was a VERY slow leak, so time will tell).
Reading your OP again and your last post, maybe feel around your boots and clamps at your intercooler piping and plenum boots. If it is only making 5 or 6 pounds, there might be a boot that has come off, which would be a severe boost leak. Does the truck sound any different than it did before?
Also, it certainly would not hurt to have a way to scan for codes (AutoEnginuity, Torque Pro, or something similar). Can you pull any codes?
Mcnance865 -- I'll check those out when I get home as a possibility. To answer your question, it's honestly a little hard to remember what something did sound like, when I wasn't planning on needing to know in the future what it would sound like.... but comparing myself to other powerstrokes on the road at the time, I had almost zero noise/whistle from my turbo compared to other trucks. That may be what put me on the path of wondering if my turbo or wastegate solenoid were going bad.
