Just find another builder and don’t enclose the garage, it will kill your resale.

That is awesome. That gives me hope. I appreciate the pictures!

This is a deed restricted Community, where I cannot just build an external structure like I had acreage. Wish I could, but that’s not gonna happen.

while I appreciate and am envious of your shop situation (trust me, that is my nirvana) for many reasons, I am in Hillsborough County, and I am building in a community where I cannot do that.

You could let the builder build the house then raise the header afterwards. It would cost more money and is stupid they won’t do it the first time but if parking in a garage is important enough there’s a way. Lol.

Interesting. Raising it may throw off some flags (maybe not) since they are **** about elevations . If not (thinking out loud here) ...could I cut 2” into the header to provide the clearance?...but then what does that do to everything else? Need to take a look, but great idea!

Remember the days when a sunken living room was the cool thing? How about a sunken garage floor? Easily taken care of early on in the build. Outside elevation stays the same. Might start a trend.

Another issue i ran against is I just replaced my garage door about a year ago and the wind load requirements here in florida. They have increased the size of the supports on the backside of the door and they are huge compared to the older doors which reduces clearance overhead and front to back.

This won't help the height issue but on the length-saw a pic in Autoweek magazine where a F-150 owner had made an extended removable panel for the lower 1/3 of garage door, so after truck was in just attach panel onto closed door so *** end was covered. Figured there was an HOA that didn't allow pick-ups on driveways or some lefty crap like that.
With you on the height issue-I'll find out in 8 weeks when my '19 F-350 arrives!!!!

This is the truck I test drove before ordering mine. I wanted to make sure it would fit in the garage before I pulled the trigger. The antenna drug on the header and door real bad, but a stubby will take care of that really easily. I eased it in really slow while hanging out the window, watching the roof.

So, after test driving a Super Duty, your sayin' no fit-no buy? I'm not buying that 😄!
The local Harley dealer let me take my Heritage home before buying to make sure it fit. I made it fit!!

I had already tried a rental 250 with 18” wheels, so I knew it would fit. My issue was if a 350 with 20s would fit. I’m glad it did, because I love the 20s.

That's what I was going to suggest as well. But don't let your current builder do it...they don't deserve the extra cash for refusing your request.
