2000 4WD X: I just discovered the X has a large water leak (1/2" in water the glove box) on the right side of the windshield The 4x4 has never worked AND I remember reading these water leaks commonly fry something that has to do with the 4x4 controls BUT I can not remember what it is ??? Anyone know ?? Thanks Harley

Reason: readability
Not sure about the 4WD being fried with water intrusion, but the cowl water issue is in the tech folder under: General/Universal (first page, about halfway down.
I believe the issue with the water (besides the water) is the GEM module in the older X's. Not sure if the 4WD runs through that. Have you checked all the vac lines and hub operation? Is the transfer case engaging? Flashing lights? What else is it doing/not doing?
Have you checked your vacuum pump and lines, they engage the hubs? Is the transfer case motor working? Just a few common areas to start with, good luck.
