97 Expedition and engine light

It worked!...pulled the battery cable and CEL went off. Everything's working just fine this a.m. Next thing is powering steering. Fluids fine, pumps fine,,,,we were told by the dealership to bring it in and they would flush it out. It's making the popular 'whining' noise, as if the fluid is low or something is blocking the fluid from getting into the pump. Any thoughts on that guys?
