Is there and idea, or maybe a best weight an F350 can/should carry that might provide the best ride? I'm just curious. Clearly it rides different with a load than when empty, and clearly there is a maximum load (which I understand varies with each truck).
Though I haven’t worked mine very hard, the 800lbs tongue weight of my travel trailer certainly seemed to smooth things out and reduce the sharp jolts. But by adding that weight to your bed for a smoother ride you may be decreasing fuel economy slightly.

I have the F350 with upper and lower overload springs in the back and plow package springs in the front. Replacement bumpers smoothed things out nicely.
Instead of adding weight I replaced the shocks. One of the OEM shocks (rear, passenger) was bad, with less than 4,000 miles on it. The new Rancho 9000XL shocks ride good enough that I'm not interested in adding weight to smooth it out any further.
Thanks guys. I'm OK with the ride. I was just kind of curious if there was a target weight that designers used. I figure there has to be some kind of "sweet spot" they go for and then design for a low and high load.
Good to hear another positive report on Rancho 9000XLs.
^^^^^ Well, engineers usually design for max capacity then add a safety factor, not an average of a load. However, in my experience about 40-50% of the "rating" does give a smooth ride. This is payload, not tongue weight. The reason why I specify is weight just sitting in the bed of the truck is static while the trailer weight will give some inertia movement onto the truck from road conditions. .
