ride quality

looking at a f350 6.ol psd, but may need to go to a f450/550 for tow wt. considerations. how does the ride quality deteriorate with the step up? anybody owned both?

geezee,

The ride quality is always stiffer/harsher when you go to a larger GVWR/GCWR vehicle such as the F450/500 over a F350, due to the heavier springs etc.

But your determination of what size truck you need should be based on what type of load you need to haul or pull. If you max out or over load your truck by getting one that is to small you will greatly shorten the life of the components of the truck (ie., brakes, tranny, bearings, springs). IMO

Also if you run your rig overweight of its design limits you risk being fined if you are pulled over and weighed.

BTW what size load are you going to be pulling?

well, we like the big toy haulers. I know that the trailer should determine the truck and not the other way around, so if ride quality were greatly dimished we would look at the smaller trailers. my problem is that I am drawn like a moth to a flame to the 40 ft. alpha toyhouse. I'm guessing it's over 15k. we also like the king ranch f350. but I don't think they match up too well, so.... I've been visiting the classy chassis web site.

I know the feeling of looking at bigger toys, i am currently looking at a 24K flat bed gooseneck to haul our tractor collection on the bumps me up to the F450/550 at least.

If you wind up with the 40ftr and a trailer weight of 15k combine that with the curb weight of a F350 (6500-7K) you will be over GCWR by couple thousand pounds before you load up the kids, wife and dog.

I agree definitly looks like your looking for a F450/550.

I heard the F550 has an air ride suspension option and a 'super tow' capacity option. Over on www.RV.net there was some discussion about these trucks in the tow vehicle, towing, and camper forums.
